Gov. Branstad to ride one day of RAGBRAI

Gov. Terry Branstad’s public schedule released today includes mention of a more rigorous activity than a press conference where the sweat is induced by TV lights and persistent questions: Branstad will ride RAGBRAI starting a 7 a.m. Tuesday.
That day’s ride will wind from Perry to Des Moines and (weather pending) could become the single biggest day of mass bicycling in Iowa.
The last time he rode all of The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, Branstad said Thursday night at the opening of a new exhibit dedicated to the ride at the State Historical Museum, was in 1988. And the last time RAGBRAI visited Des Moines, in 1997, Branstad also occupied Terrace Hill.
“We’ve been 16 years building up to this moment on Tuesday,” RAGBRAI Director T.J. Juskiewicz said at the exhibit opening.
No other details of Branstad’s planned ride were immediately available.

Well, RAGBRAI XLIX is done and dusted. But hopefully you aren’t (unless you did the gravel loop). I am sure all of you went...
In this case, I’ll be impressed if he goes a hard 90.
How much is this going to cost us taxpayers for his bike, his security? Maybe his time would be better spent doing something about all the problems in Iowa.
I’m fairly confident their won’t be any speeding during that ride., unless he gets too tired and they hook him up to the SUV.
Isn’t it nice to know Gov. Branstad can relax and ride a bike for a few hours, when he is usually is so busy he has to drive 85mph on our interstate system? I suppose it will be a tandem bike, so he and the Lt. Gov. can get some work done along the way.
You guys just shut it when you see me and Lance smoke you and don’t get pulled over!! And yes… I will be working!
Branstad & Armstrong … much ado about NOTHING!
