The Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, FRY Fest presented by MidwestOne, Iowa Bicycle Coalition and RAGBRAI are pleased to announce a partnership with legendary coach Dan Gable and Scheels to produce the granGABLE fondo powered by Scheels.
“Scheels has been a well recognized community partner since the first day they opened their store here in Johnson County” said Josh Schamberger, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This is an event they have been wanting to develop for some time now so we are pleased to assist them in developing the relationships to make it possible.”
This mass participation bike ride will take place during FRY Fest weekend on Sunday, September 1, 2013…the morning after the Hawkeyes open their home football season against the Northern Illinois. The ride will begin and end from the Iowa River Landing in Coralville navigating through some of the more scenic roads of Johnson and Iowa Counties. Century riders – those that pedal the entire 100 miles – will be rewarded with a commemorative granGABLE medal by Coach Gable himself at the conclusion of their ride. 25-mile and 60-mile routes will also be available for those not up for tackling the century challenge. A post ride party will take place that afternoon featuring live music, food, and beverages.
Full details surrounding this new Labor Day weekend event/tradition are now available at www.granGABLE.com with registration opening May 6.
