To ride RAGBRAI you have to be ready for both a physical and mental challenge. For those that have ridden in the past, I know you know what I mean. It’s not a walk in the park to pedal your bike across Iowa! First and foremost, you need your heart to be in tip top shape, start your cardio training now to ensure you heart can take that extra strain.  Every day on RAGBRAI your heart will be tested. On this strenuous ride, your heart will pump out blood at a more voluminous and faster pace than normal and you want to be ready for that volume. Besides cardio training, what else do you think is key to lasting heart health? Yup, good ‘ol fashion H20 — it’s never out of style! Hydration is such an integral part of heart healthiness. You can use the chart below to determine your level of hydration at any given moment.  You need to make sure that you are well hydrated at all times during the day and especially on the ride.

If you want your heart working at the top level, your hydration needs to be at the top level.  You need to start your day right away with a tall glass of water and then keep drinking that clear liquid throughout the day to keep properly hydrated.
