Jerry, if you look at the link in my original post, there is a map of Monona and Crawford counties and the RAGBRAI route.
Again, the ordinances in question pertain not one iota to if a vendor is Iowa-based or not. It could be a Martian vendor. The very idea of how municipalities or counties fund anything related to RAGBRAI is not there, yet can…[Read more]
The minutes of the Monona County Board of Supervisors and the language of the ordinance can be read in this link. http://www.mononacounty.org/BOS/MayMinutes/05012018.pdf TJ has misrepresented this issue on his post. This has NOTHING to do with vendor size or origin. NO special service or vendors will be allowed in any unincorporated area of…[Read more]
Obviously, the fitter one is the more fun Ragbrai is. This year’s route is so easy I fail to see how it is actually a bike ride but more a social event with some riding thrown in for good measure. 90,000 ft? You’ll fit right in, easily, don’t sweat it, you’ll be fitter/stronger than most other riders.
There is no consensus (I’ve ridden rock hard 23’s on my crit bike and 32’s on my CX bike on the Rag) and my opinion is of rather than width the discussion should be age of the tire. Which ever bike I decide to ride, no matter the tire width, it gets new rubber a month for Ragbrai so I can put at the very least a hundred miles on them. I’m always…[Read more]
Gypsy Rose, I had no idea Strava did that. That is fantastic for bicycle advocacy. I have problems with some Strava users and their behavior, so I’ve never really used the app but it is tied to my Garmin Connect account and Garmin devices.
Dockat, anything that relies upon cellular connectivity in Iowa on RAGBRAI is highly prone to failure, no…[Read more]
Quoting my man, kwog: ” but it’s worth it to hear “push it” by Salt-n-Pepa. “Oooh baby baby, buh buh buh baby””
What really sucks is when I’m chugging up a hill with a good head of steam and it’s fun and I’m passing a sound rig with that damn song and there’s a debate in my head; slow down and have fun, get over this hill as fast as you can which…[Read more]
kwog is spot on with his assessment of the majority of riders. I have 16 years of RAGBRAI and the morning of Day 1 is certainly the most stressful. People are excited – rightly so! – people are careless, people think they’re faster than they really are – there is always someone faster behind you – and they clog those hills getting out of the river…[Read more]
Rode my steel crit frame for years on very high pressure 23’s. No reason not to. I’ve also ridden on 24’s, 28’s on my CX frame and this year will be on 25’s. I’ve also never had a flat on Ragbrai. I get new tires before every ride and put around 100 miles on them before Day 1.
Personal preference. Cheers and good luck.
