I asked about the accident question from Ragbrai official. I was told for legal reasons, they don’t disclose, discuss, or want to even know about the accidents on the road. (HIPAA I’m thinking) I am sure they care about the injured, but can’t/won’t disclose anything about it.
Just throwing this out there…. the roads we were riding on were meant for cars/trucks/tractors. And for them, they were pretty good shape. If we were riding on most of the bike trails in Iowa, they are mostly smooth. If your looking for the best ride, its not on the Iowa roads.
Here is my question?? How do you run out of the “beer of Ragbrai” on Saturday at the Expo?? Tailwind was sold out at 2:00PM at Council Bluffs Then by Friday it seemed like they could not give the stuff away.. Just a question..
Is it a disease, sickness, addition, insanity??? All of the above? When January hits, I start to itch for a ride, constantly check the Ragbrai web sight for info and new forums and can’t wait for July. Thought it would be a one and done… NOPE, not the case.. WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO ME?? OH wait, I know… RAGBRAI!!!!!!
US Cellular has at times had the mobile truck at the overnight towns.. As rumor had it, they were not able to provide as much support last year as a main tower went down and they needed the truck somewhere else in the state. I did see it once last year and 3 times the prior year.. I know it was in Cresco in ’17 and I had great reception but most…[Read more]
Stop the madnesses!!! If your for them, you win. If against them, you loose. The law is the law and Ragbrai has stated its position. By the way, had to post something just to unfollow this bickering. I am definitely done with this topic.
All bicyclists along with everyone else should be organ donors. I don’t agree with the thought that just because I don’t wear a helmet means that I am going to die if I get into an accident. The reality is, if I am hit by a car running 55+ on the roads I ride on, I’m dead with or without a helmet. Your correct that Ragbrai does care. And we ar…[Read more]
I do want to throw out that there is a large amount of people on the ride that do think the helmet is required and the times you don’t wear on you will definitely hear about it. Thanks for your concern and will take it under advisement. I will also say I have seen a few wrecks on the couple years I have gone also. Mostly self inflicted as I c…[Read more]
Well, I thought this was a dead issue… As stated by Ragbrai, helmets are optional but highly recommended. Iowa Law DOES NOT require helmets to be worn in this state. I did wear a helmet “MOST” of the time for 17 and all of 18 since the weather was not to hot and allowed me the comfort wearing one and not passing out of heat stroke! That being…[Read more]

E-bikes legal in Iowa
Electric bikes going over 20mph not legal on roads as bicycle.
Ragbrai on public roads.
Ragbrai HQ welcomes e-bikes.
Beating a dead horse on this one. Or an e-bike with a dead battery. Take your pick, you are not going anywhere.
I’m betting about half of the riders are not registered. Ragbrai can’t stop unregistered riders. How are they going to stop e-bikes? Public roads and legal bikes make them unstoppable. Unless you…YOU are willing to make them outcasts, then they will be welcome all day everyday. I am not either for or against so I won’t promote or cast stone…[Read more]
I think Mootsman, you are misinformed on the aero shells. in ’17 I had a good conversation with one of the drivers of an aero shell in Postville. It was battery powered. FYI cars are allowed on the route. its an open road for all public use. I see them every year.
Lets see if we can get the name changed from RAG”BR”AI to RAG”M”AI since its moving away from a “bike ride” to just a “migration” across the great state. we have people on bicycles, unicycles, tricycles, skateboards, those three wheeled elliptical things, jogging, running, walking, those soap box derby three wheeled bullet looking thingies (some…[Read more]
