Here’s a link to an article in Nature that may explain the confusion about autoantibodies and COVID-19. This may explain why some people are long haulers.

Well, that’s interesting!! There was a forum started this morning entitled “I guess the cat’s out of the bag”. It referenced a YouTube video from Pork Belly with a message that “we’ll see you next summer”. There were comments wondering why PBV was preempting RAGBRAI’s announcement. That forum has now been deleted.

I would suggest that RAGBRAI offer its registered riders the option of a complete refund or a donation to UIHC Children’s Hospital, overnight towns, or some other, well thought out choices. Many registrants (especially the younger ones) now find themselves unemployed or furloughed and need that money to make ends meet.

I’m not looking for RAGBRAI to return until 2022, at the earliest. The logistics involved in the execution of RAGBRAI are mind boggling. A 30 day cancellation window is unrealistic. The concept of super spreading events seems to elude many posters. In the absence of a vaccine/treatment, 20,000 bike riders standing shoulder to shoulder in Podunkville eating pork loin sandwiches and corn on the cob meets the definition of a potential suoer spreading event.

I like your comment referencing the horrific possibility of a COVID map that looks like our route map. That would be the death knell of RAGBRAI. Better to wait a year (or two) and have a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone.

Nobody knows for sure wth is going on with this virus. Maybe a second wave after some social mitigation restrictions are lifted. Maybe a return in the fall. We will not see a return to “festival” cycling until there is an effective vaccine. Count on it.

Japan may have been an outlier, but S. Korea and Hong Kong are also seeing a second wave after easing their rules on mitigation. If you all get a chance, watch the clip of Dr. Scott Gottlieb on Face the Nation this morning. Very sobering. Dr. Gottlieb is not an alarmist. Listen to what he says about group get-togethers. Good point. Tough to prove. 20,000 riders pull into a “healthy” town. Two weeks later .. all hell breaks loose. Maybe no lawsuits .. plenty of bad PR.

I had a bad summer last year. I racked my knee up on the first of June playing tennis. With the swelling, I couldn’t bike at all.
