RAGBRAI recently turned up the anti-spam knob on their forum software from 0.001 to 11, or maybe 11,000! I have trouble getting through now, I’m at work pecking this out with one finger on my phone because my employer, a national defense contractor, is known to be a major RAGBRAI spammer. Apparently that’s all we have to do here. So I can’t use…[Read more]
The water bottle I got in the mail a week before last was purple.
I got an email last week telling me that I had survived the lottery. That email said that wristband numbers would be sent out soon. I checked everywhere I can think of this morning and I don’t see one yet but I am sure it will come. If you did not get an email about the lottery…[Read more]
Yes, I got the same thing and also harbored a faint hope it might be a wristband already. Some people claim that if you signed up for the route announcement party livestream you were promised a water bottle. I don’t remember being promised a bottle but I did sign up for the livestream. If you did too then perhaps that’s what the bottle is about.…[Read more]
I don’t view recaptcha as an improvement, it is more annoying than the spam!
Plus my work VPN is now regarded as a known source of spam, which I find curious because I work for a defense contractor and we have VERY secure networks. So I can’t post from work anymore and if I want to post from my phone at work I have to turn off WiFi so that it…[Read more]
The new maps are up here. These are the traditional artistic maps which look pretty but aren’t as useful to some of us as the more map-like maps that are currently available under the XLVIII menu. Both are nice to have and the new ones have important details like meeting towns and the Karras loop and the gravel route which are lacking on the…[Read more]
The new website is still a work in progress, I think. That information may be on Enmotive too but RAGBRAI needs to have it in order to sell you stuff from their online store! Either they will fix it soon or you can enter the information separately in their store when you want to buy something. A couple of things that I notice are that there no…[Read more]
If they quietly let the registration stay open for a few days after the extended deadline passed then I suppose you got lucky! The RAGBRAI help desk could take a few days to get back to you but they will and you will know the status then. If either you or your teammate need credentials you may still be able to buy them from someone who registered,…[Read more]
Well, GPS elevations are always problematic. That seems like an unusually large error or perhaps difference would be a better word since we don’t know which one, if either, is correct. At one time RAGBRAI had a friend (was it Rich Ketchum?) who drove/rode their routes with a sophisticated mapping and elevation measuring system of his own…[Read more]
None of us can tell you if your registration carried over or not. If you opened up Enmotive at some point and saw your registration listed as complete then you did carry over. As Larry says those of us who let our registrations carry over from last year have already won the lottery, that was one of the perks of letting RAGBRAI keep your money for…[Read more]
Got an automated response already telling me that inboxes are full due to the heavy email volume and a response will be delayed. That is not entirely unexpected at this point in the RAGBRAI year. Add in more people asking more questions than normal due to the pandemic and maybe that is all it means. But there could also be more ride planning…[Read more]
There is no gravel loop this year. It has been replaced with gravel Tuesday from Fort Dodge to Iowa Falls, 70 miles total, about 50 on gravel. The gravel route is optional, roughly parallels the main route, and the two meet in Webster City. If you like gravel it will be epic.
I think the Karras loop is on Thursday, there definitely is one this…[Read more]
Charters and teams are similar in many ways but I think there are technical differences between the two classes so not exactly the same. Teams can be more flexible than charters. I have mostly ridden with a small team that is a group of friends and we pretty much do things as we please because there are few enough of us that we can normally…[Read more]
I rode in the rain one day without a rain jacket which I had along but left in the team SAG vehicle. I will never do that again! No matter what the week’s weather is generally or how warm it may seem on a day when rain is expected or even occurring when you set out it will often turn chilly during a rainstorm and if you are rain soaked you can get…[Read more]
When I picture Jboz in conjunction with choppers for some reason I am seeing something more like those we might see in the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa this year. But with pedals. If you drop in there this July you can also catch the legendary Roadog motorcycle. I’d read about it in a newspaper article years ago and then was surprised and…[Read more]
Anna628: congratulations on your first rant! Nicely done, you sound like a pro!
I wonder how many of us have properly fitted N95 masks? At one time they were impossible to get for civilians and I rarely see anything that could even possibly be one out in the wild. Gases freely pass through the air filter on my car, I realize that it can be done.…[Read more]
