Unfortunately I live pretty far to the west, so it’s tough for me to make any group training rides. I AM interested in getting together some sort of plan for the travel to and from Iowa with others to share the cost and hassle of driving, BEFORE I register for the ride.

Yikes!! I don’t know what would be worse…riding in a thunderstorm in Iowa, or riding off a hang-over on day #2 of a 7 day bike ride!!

Unfortunately the sandals with SPD off road type cleats are great. But if you use other types of road pedals with different style cleats they don’t work.

I live in North Texas – west of FT Worth so I’m pretty used to the heat. Temperatures here in the summer soar past 100 routinely so I understand necessary precautions to guard against heat related injury. It can be very serious! I’ll have to pass on the sandals. Thanks for all the replies! I normally avoid rain, but today I got caught in the rain on a 2 hour ride here in North Texas. Luckily it was 69 warm degrees so temperature was not an issue. But you know what? It really wasn’t that bad. I believe it’s all an attitude thing!

OK, so it sounds like rain is almost a sure thing. One day wouldn’t be too bad….but riding through multiple downpours…..or hail? Maybe I’m a cream puff.

I’m thinking about doing my first RAGBRI in 2020, but the thought of possibly riding a day (or more) in the rain doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. What happens if it rains during RAGBRI?? Just push on and ride through it? Is rain common during RAGBRI??

Cool. I haven’t registered either. I was thinking of using Padre’s Cycle Inn for a charter since they have a bus from ST Louis to the ride and back. Would cut out a lot of driving all the way to IA.
