I have used PBV charter for 3 years but I still use the RAGBRAI baggage truck. I bought one of those oval shaped ones that plugs into the end of my bars (left bar) so as I’m riding I can glance over and always know what or who is coming up behind me. No one piece of cycling equipment has given me more peace of mind in the saddle than that little $10 mirror. All cyclist should have one.
Don’t over think it. I’m a 40 year old in decent shape and I had 450 miles in before the start of last years ride.
