Jboz – That sounds like a great ride…beautiful part of the state. August would work well for me. How do we proceed to make this a reality? Klkoopman – Thanks for posting the link to the trails. I always remember my dad riding one of those great trails around the Kalamazoo area.
That might be something I would be interested in. I’m in Arizona but maybe Michigan as that’s where I’m from…or something more westerly. This is my first year back into riding and I would fit into your riding style. I’m almost 60 and wanted to do Ragbrai to challenge myself in my 60th birthday year. Not having a “goal” ride has me cutting…[Read more]
I would be interested but based on the number of people who would like to do this. I was thinking around 20 or so would be a manageable number for logistics and the towns. I’ll watch this thread to see what comes of it. I need to have a ride to look forward to for motivation.
I’m loving all these suggestions. Maybe a small group of us(10 -20ppl) could do a ride somewhere? Self supported?? Or if someone had a person that could sag and transport tents, baggage, etc. I don’t know just trying to think outside the box. Thoughts?
These are all great suggestions. I know what you mean but needing a goal, something to train for in order to keep up with the miles needed. I’m going to check them all out. Love the Cali one as I’m in AZ and it’s close. Love the Michigan ride as I’m from there…Go Blue! The Canada ride looks intriguing and something to consider for future…[Read more]
I’m assuming most things will be cancelled this year…bummer. However, just in case, does anyone have suggestions for some awesome rides? Could be a one day century, weekend ride or week long. I really need something to train for…it helps with keeping the weight off.
I ride 25 tires and just switched to the gel filled tubes by panacera. Also switched to the Gator tires as well and keep psi around 105. Not to thrilled with those tubes right now. Sandaltan I will check out your recommendations. Thanks.
I certainly hope Ragbrai doesn’t get cancelled but if it does…Ride on. I finally started riding after a 20 year hiatus…and that was the year I rode coast to coast…so much fun. My training continues and I’m learning to repair flats quicker. I’ve had two so far. Any recommendations on tubes and tires to use to help with that issue??
These are all great tips and I’m inspired by what some folks are doing right now. Amanda, 32 miles this time of year is great! I will be up to about 200 miles a week beginning the end of June. I’m also doing some great hiking up some steep hills around here. Honestly this is fun getting back in shape and hopefully Ragbrai will still be on.…[Read more]
I agree to be in the best shape is ideal. Finished my best week at 40 miles. 1200 miles equates to 65 miles a week which is very doable. I’m hoping I’ll be up to 100ish by June and find a century ride somewhere towards the later part of June. Any Suggestions for a Century ride somewhere near or in Arizona?
So I started training a few weeks ago, for my first Ragbrai, with a few 5-10 mile rides. Mixed in going to the gym as it was still cold…still is. Felt like I was making progress and all x!#* broke lose. Now, gyms are closed so no going there. Question…What is everyone doing to train in the hopes Ragbrai isn’t cancelled? I’m still riding…[Read more]
I’ve decided to ride my current bike. Took it to the bike shop and he said he hadn’t seen a bike that had both the Diamondback and Centurion logo on it. He thought it was the first year Diamondback bought them. He loved it and said it rode great and I should have no worries with it. I guess since I rode it cross country 20 years ago I should of…[Read more]
Glen, I’m with you…Undecided. This if my first time riding Ragbrai as well. I’ve been looking at them all and can’t make up my mind. Bubba’s looks like a good choice as well. What can people tell us if a charter doesn’t have showers where do you go for that? I love the idea of having that close as well as having a tent and blow up mattress…[Read more]
Can I throw out another question on this thread…I’ve never shipped my bike before and wondered how that works. Do you ship it on the plane with you? Via another shipping company? When you ship it is there someone to put it back together when it arrives?? Also, if not shipped on the plane where would you ship it too? I’m thinking of driving…[Read more]
Thanks everyone. Lots of great tips…keeping me busy in my research:) Has anyone heard of the Tomasso line of bikes? Also, I used to ride on 25c tires. Is there much of a difference to go to 28C? More comfortable ride? Effect your pace much?
