Cory Rood replied to the topic Can the DMR replace the RAGBRAI staff in time? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 2 months ago
I take the info from that email with a grain of salt. Their source is RAGBRAI, of coarse they aren’t gonna let on that the ship might be on fire.

Big deal about Chris Cakes, They only showed up for one day this year.
Cory Rood replied to the topic Which Ride Will "Win"? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
Pork Belly sent out an email this evening stating that they will be sticking with offering services for RAGBRAI, that will be a big blow to TJ’s new ride considering PBV accounts for 20-25% of RAGBRAI participants. There will be alot of people now that stick with RAGBRAI simply because that’s where PBV is.
The more I stew about this whole…[Read more]

Cory Rood replied to the topic Please fire Aaron Calvin in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
I think you misread my intent. I’m very happy that RAGBRAI is doing this and I’m hopeful that it’s of their own accord instead of the DMR trying to play people after they realized they screwed up.
Cory Rood replied to the topic Please fire Aaron Calvin in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
This morning RAGBRAI announced it would be donating $50k to the UIHC.
Is this being done from the DMR to try and appease the masses or is this a donation from RAGBRAI without direction from the DMR? Either way it’s money for sick kids which is a great thing, but I’m left wondering(hoping) there is a moral/ethical divide between DMR and RAGBRAI.
Cory Rood replied to the topic Please fire Aaron Calvin in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
On top of that the Aaron Calvin has his own ‘unsavory’ social media posts lurking in his past. DMR does a background check on a 23 year old raising money, combing through 8 year old tweets, but doesn’t do the same before hiring a journalist? This whole ordeal has me questioning any relationship I have with the Register. And it is a relevant…[Read more]
Cory Rood replied to the topic Solve These Two Issues…. in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
Plenty do. My wife and I (early 30’s) make it every year. Its just priorities, It is hard with little kids to be away from them for 8 days straight(emotionally and child care)
the 23% of riders being female seems low to me. Remember that this is a sample of people that responded to the survey.

I have had WAY more self-powered riders screaming ‘On your left’ in aggressive manner.

While on a ride like RAGBRAI the center rumbles are annoying, in smaller groups they are great. they do a fantastic job of keeping distracted drivers in their own lane!

when i call out ‘on your left’ i dont neccessarily want you to move right. im just making sure you know not to move left.

Cory Rood replied to the topic Killer Roads? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 5 months ago
Maybe it’s because I live and ride in Iowa, but I had no issue with the roads. Were some rough? Sure. Can I distinctly remember a certain section? Nope. It is completely unrealistic to expect good to great condition roads all week long. Counties can’t just go out and repair the RAGBRAI route without it being budgeted or planned. Many times a…[Read more]

Cory Rood replied to the topic Where to next year? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 5 months ago
Cascade to Dubuque via Farley, Holy Cross, Balltown, and Sherrill would be my choice. finish at A.Y. McDonald Park. Great surface for the whole route.
I don’t think Petersburg from Dyersville would fly though. There isn’t enough draw there to make up for what would end up being a lack of services(would be similar to this year’s day 4 and 5 pass…[Read more]
Cory Rood replied to the topic Where to next year? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 5 months ago
If we never went back to the Quad Cities I’d be happy. Worst ending town IMO. If were gonna do the overnight on the Mississippi, I’d suggest Guttenburg to Marquette.
Cory Rood replied to the topic Was this year a bust? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 5 months ago
NO way was it a bust. Some of the pass through towns were quite lackluster but other than that I had similar experiences to the last 2 years. Can’t wait to see where we go next year!
Cory Rood replied to the topic Observations about the ride in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 5 months ago
Was this in Donnelson? We bypassed downtown by stopping at the Casey’s for lunch and never saw or went through a gravel section.

I don’t know the answer and would like to know as well. I will add my theory on it though. I think it seems to be from city limit to city limit.
