According to CDC stats, the 7 day average total vaccinations (1st and 2nd) is 1.8 million per day. The 7 day average of fully vaccinated is 850k per day. A total of 61 million doses have been given (injected into arms) to date, 18 million having received both doses. Granted, those numbers are surely down from what they would have been without…[Read more]
Pfizer’s and Moderna’s vaccine is a messenger RNA vaccine (mRNA) not an RNA vaccine. Two different animals. I’m not a doctor or scientist but have been an investor in biotech, specifically IONS, for over 20 years that specialize in mRNA drug development and I doubt there is little chance of autoimmune issues with the mRNA vaccines.…[Read more]
Agree 100% Luv2Ski. If there is a reliable vaccine we all should be required to get one. Doubt there will be a Ragbrai without. I like the other ideas expressed here as well like hand sanitizer, temp checks etc. My first Ragbrai was in 1975 and I have done 20+ since. I would say that on at least half of those rides someone in our group has…[Read more]
Mike and Ken, I live in SD but haven’t specifically done this event before. In looking at their website it looks like it is basically a ride on the coast highway south from Oceanside on a Saturday. I ride that route frequently but in reverse, Del Mar north and back. Fantastic ride and although the coast highway can be very car busy (not so much…[Read more]
I’m living in Europe this summer and therefore won’t make Ragbrai 🙁 but have been reading the forums. I use a VPN so that I can log in through a US IP address and get local news etc. I just tested by turning the VPN off and sure enough, here in Barcelona, I got the USA Today notice that I was in the EU and couldn’t get access. Turned the VPN…[Read more]
My first Ragbrai was III and I’ve done 25 or so since (lost count at this point). I remember a very hot Ragbrai in the late 70’s. It was one of my first wearing true bike shorts and I was amazed one day that it was so hot when we got in town my black shorts were stained white with salt sweat. As I recall, someone died that day and I think that…[Read more]

Sorry to report that we will not make it to Ragbrai this year. The fees are so high that we would lose money if we went. We love you all but cannot support your coffee habit”
Its to bad that smaller vendors are being driven out by high fees charged. Those remaining will likely charge higher for their…[Read more]
I was getting really nervous as well as we are leaving in 8 days for Ragbrai but got an email early this morning saying my packet/jersey are in USPS 2-day delivery mail today. Definitely late in getting things out this year and with the amount of advance time they have not sure why they waited till the last minute to ship.
To bad about the Cedar County Sheriff and his thoughts on Ragbrai. Had a blast there in 2008 (Tipton). My adult daughters first ride since I pulled her across the state in a bugger when she was 3 years old. She won the drawing for the school bus in Tipton and we stayed at the house of a school teacher. Wish I could remember his name but great…[Read more]
Bill Spriggs, if you are in Southern CA, try Julian Pies bakery in Julian. They normally make rhubarb and strawberry mix but if you call ahead they will make a rhubarb only pie and hold it for you. OMG they are delicious. Expensive but as good or better than anything I’ve ever had on Ragbrai (20+). They also will bake and overnight a pie to you.
Keep me on your list for a peloton. I was born and went to school in Iowa but have been in San Diego since 1985. Have done many many Ragbrai rides and currently am planning to attend in 2017.
