Well my sister’s, cousin’s, nephew’s, grandmother’s- twice removed-, Auto Mechanic over heard a guy at the post office telling his wife’s, sister’s, dog she heard the same thing. But I don’t go around spreading rumors……….
I agree with Nico ZZZ. Don’t neglect the gym time. Squats, deadlifts, lunges and core work. There is a girl in our group who has maybe 100 miles in every year but is in great shape from Cross-fit. Kills all of us on the hills. The only problem she has is that her butt gets a little sore. (BIOTCH)!!! :) :)
1st Day for the Gravel Loop – 2015 Kona Jake Hybrid with 38mm tires. I rode this bike in last years RAGBRAI.
The rest will be on my 2016 Giant Defy 2.
Any update on a Patch for the Gravel Loop??
The first 3 days last year was a true test and then followed up by the Karras Loop on day 4. This years route seems easy on paper but hills are hills, miles are miles and heat is heat. With that said I hear my bike calling me and the gym just emailed me that tomorrow is leg day….
I feel that way about Liver and Onions!!!!!
Lots of good advice. A few more that applied to me:
1. EAT!! This isn’t the week to diet. Your body is going to need every calorie and then some.
2. Learn/Train to use your small “granny” gears with a high candence for the big hills. I know this year is flatter than usual. Last year the first two days were brutal. This year the last three days are the big climbing days.
3. Leg Days at the Gym!! Squats, lunges and deadlifts will pay big dividends.
4. Pace yourself. Last year I almost bonked on the first day because I went out too hard. There is plenty of time to get to the next host town. I even completed the Century Loop.
5. HAVE FUN!!
“This one time at Band Camp, I ………….
FSU guy has become Anonymous. Did they remove him?? It would be really fun to know his real story.
I do do some core training but not as much as i should. Yes this is my first RAGBRAI and I’m really excited. I am afraid of the heat. Yesterday it was 90 here but felt like 100 due to the humidity. At the end of my ride i was toast. Hope to meet you and some of the other riders that have posted here. Im using PBV this year.
I want to apologize for my lauguage above. If I could i would edit the BAD words.
You’re a Salty little fucker aren’t you!! You don’t know me or anything about me. Did the kids at school not let you play with them at recess?? I bet you were the bully that got his ass kicked. So sad that your ego is so small probably like your dick. I can tell you’re a real ass!! GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!
Lots of dancing going on here.
Thanks all for you input. BTW I am from St. Louis, MO and do not come from a metric country. My question wasn’t meant to be complicated. Just trying to get an idea of what RAGBRAI means when it references “Feet of Climb”. Day one is “Feet of Climb” at 2,616. Knowing that there are 5,280 feet in a mile. Does this mean for the 49.7 miles on day one, there is about a 1/2 mile of total climb for the whole day??
