My major reason for using an RV and missing out on the true experience is I prefer my own shower. If the true RAGBRAI experience is standing angle deep in shower water with 5 men you don’t know then I will miss out then.
My wife drives our 31 foot motor home as our support team. If we riders can get out early she has leaned to hit the road early and beat much of the lines, on the road and at campsites. To answer some of your questions:
1) There has always been a place to park, sometimes Walmart but all you need is a place. RV campgrounds are separate from tent…[Read more]
We may be able to help as in my daughter and friend are also starting in Centerville so will leave a vehicle there and need a ride from Keokuk. I was thinking of taking the Tahoe back but could use the motor home if there are enough riders.

Another option depending on what direction live from Iowa is to come to the ending town (Keokuk) to leave your vehicle and catch a ride to the starting town. Then you can ride the last day at your leisure instead of pushing to make whatever time your ride west is leaving. There will be ride options posted closer to July to choose from.
By overdoing the hills I mean I powered up instead of using high rpms. I knew better. It got to where riding was okay but couldn’t walk. And don’t think you won’t walk at RAGBRAI. Through all towns and sometimes we start walking a half mile before a town. A great experience so I hope you will make it.
I have abused and injured my knees at work over the years. I have found that the more I ride the less pain I endure. That said I agree with Den to take it easy. I did overdo the hills last year and paid for it. Hopeful to be smarter this year.
Yes, the Southwest Chief has a stop in Ft Madison. We will be travelling from Keokuk through Ft Madison on our way home after the ride. I am sure we could haul another rider and gear. The problem is it looks like the train leaves Ft Madison at 10:50 AM. so you might have a day layover.
