@GETACLUEblue, don’t worry too much about tire width, or “comfort, puncture proof”ness, so long as “color, etc” is good you’ll be fine on the gravel.

vaseline. works great. lasts longer and is more water/sweat resistant than chamois cream. It’s available everywhere and cheap.

Not to rain on this parade, and there are plenty of viable off-route options, consider that the good people of Iowa, who must do business regardless, are sufficiently inconvenienced by the 10,000 of us on the route without off-route riders further impeding traffic. I’ve managed apparel for Team Good Beer for seven years. We’ve used Mt. Borah, Primal, and Champ-Sys. Champ-sys hits the quality/price/service sweet spot for us. Might be someone else if we were bigger, smaller, or didn’t have our own artist. Not likely but could be.
