I am also from Texas (Houston) and vet of 4 RAGBRAI’s. Last year was the 1st time I’ve had to ride in the rain. Got cold, got wet, got drunk (thanks Marne!). It’s not like our riding in Texas. The more experienced riders can add/correct me on this next point. But you should expect to get rain at least 1 night and probably more. I put my gear either inside my tent or in a large garbage bag and I always use a bike cover overnight. But our motto is “Roll with it. RAGBRAI!!!” It’ll all work out and you’ll have the best week of life (until the next year).
10 minutes is not nearly enough time to break camp and do other essential things and biological imperatives. I usually look for the Fire Department in the overnight towns as they usually have a good breakfast right there in town. Last year, we went to the Onawa Country Club for a “few” and then got food. But that’s just a RAGBRAI thang.
We here in Houston, Texas got PLENTY of both. We’ll be more than happy to send y’all some to have for your own self. But you can keep February.
I carry flip-flops under my saddle. When I want to stick around town (which is pretty often), off come the shoes and socks and on go the flip-flops. My feet LOVE the breeze!
Do you still have room for 2 or 3 more riders?
I will buy one if you still have one available.
Do you still have the pass? I need one. e-mail me off line and we can work out the details.
