Sorry to hear you got ill Amanda. Get well and I hope you’re on your way to a full recovery!
Bicycle Bill so sorry. My heartfelt condolences to you!
Off the top of my head I really liked Le Mars, Lytton, Ackley, Alden, Ft. Dodge, Webster City, Iowa Falls , Parkersburg, Walker. Hottest RAGBRAI since 2012. I left early and left late and I feel there was less people overall this year. The road felt less crowded. Good news is that I didn’t see too many crashes, ambulances etc.
Looks great on my phone. Thanks AP!
I signed up! Looking forward to the tech tee and the pint glass. I’ll wash my stinky bike clothes with a Tide Pod too. Stay safe and healthy everyone!
I’m in for Paul’s Bacon Ride this Saturday! I missed out last year and didn’t want to miss out this time. Really looking forward to it. ?
1100 for me. A lot on the smart trainer/Zwift this year due to rain and late spring here in the Midwest. Not sure I’ll be able to add too many more miles before the ride.
Being in the Midwest and not a big fan of the cold I bit the bullet and bought a Wahoo Kickr’ and started using Zwift mid-December. Since then I’ve put in almost 500 miles on Zwift alone. I really like it! The fat bike really only gets used on weekends now. It’s nice to get home from work, hit the basement and ride. I will definitely buy the Kick’r Climb next year to add to the realistic feel. Hopefully these miles will help for RAGBRAI this year.
I can’t remember what time the towns actually get announced. It seems like it’s awhile though from when the feed starts. No real idea this year for towns. I think it’ll start in Le Mars and end in Fort Madison though.
I’ve gotten a jersey every year I’ve done RAGBRAI. I’ll wear this years on the official jersey day. I usually will wear other non RAGBRAI jerseys during the rest of the week especially college spirit day. Go Gophers! I wear my RAGBRAI jerseys quite a bit when riding. Always a good conversation starter.
I do like Mark’s route prediction. Wasn’t one of Mark’s towns where we got to ride the Sprint Car track on the way in a few years back?
Yup! Knoxville back in 2013.
That ride from Fairfield to Fort Madison sure was pretty!
A few months back, I did exactly that and went digging for town council notes. It’s back on page 2 of this thread. But….. I just re-did part of the search, and found something interesting that wasn’t there before:
It’s from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce; it’s their 2019 Events Calendar. On it is, sure enough, RAGBRAI. I don’t know if it’s wishful thinking and they put in for it, hoping it would come though, or they actually know something. But, if it were true, we’re going South! Last time we were in Fairfield we ended in Fort Madison was 2013; that seems to be the go-to, as we’ve done Fairfield to Fort Madison 4 times over the years.
We’ll find out how wrong I am in about 3 weeks.
See ya in July
I’ll agree that there hasn’t been a lot of leaks to this years route. I think I guessed 4 last year and most years I get 0 or maybe 1 right. I’m thinking central route this year. Le Mars would be a cool start. Blue Bunny ice cream!
Maybe the purple barn is a clue? Is there any famous purple barns in Iowa? A quick Google search brings up Purple Barn Bed and Breakfast in Adel, Iowa. Hmmmmm?
To me the hidden surprises were the bike gears in the windmill and the bike chain in the wind mill. The only clue that jumped it to me was that the one star made me think of Des Moines.
Love the new logo!
