The southern route is always harder. The mileage and climb data was the most inaccurate I have ever seen (10+) years. This was the most I have ever been concerned about the century day but even with the 120+ miles it was a great day with perfect weather. Everything else pretty much standard RAGBRAI but they need the reset the ??th easiest…[Read more]

I am curious given the mileage. Why not have the loop go the other direction this year. It would save 10 miles and still get you a 106 mile century?
Feels like we were just there.

Most people don’t hang out in the end town. They are pretty anxious to get home. That being said the Quad city airport (MLI) is a piece of cake to get through and has United, American, and Delta. Allegiant if you want to stop in Phoenix or Vegas 🙂 . In addition to RAGBRAI there is a 7 mile race in the morning that draws 15 thousand plus…[Read more]

The 3 miles On 22 are nice, They are between the downhill and uphill on the chart, the little blip is a railroad overpass with a nice view of the river. Montpelier has a campground/park with a good boat dock where I imagine some will dip like Harpers ferry. The hills are nothing like last year.

Tim,
I have to say your response made me smile. I live on IA-22 between Muscatine and Davenport and yes I think it is beautiful but 22 isn’t in the best condition especially the section in Muscatine county. Maybe this would be impetuous to do some repairs. There has been some chatter about the ride going through downtown this time so that…[Read more]

I was wondering the same thing. If I remember correctly, the route in 15 was 65 miles from Coralville. This year is almost 69 and IC Should be a mile or so closer. Given the 5 extra miles and the very unkind words from Cedar county, My guess is that we will take a south route out of IC. Maybe route 6 to West Liberty and then south on 70 to…[Read more]
jimval replied to the topic Notable towns that have never hosted overnight? in the forum RAGBRAI XLV – 2017 4 years ago
Two towns come to mind Dewitt and Eldridge. Eldridge probably just to close to the QC but Dewitt would be a great overnight town. Bettendorf (pop. 35000) has to be the largest river town never to be the end city, I know a few years ago they made a concerted effort to be and end town and were denied. Maybe they have beaten the Des Moines sports…[Read more]

No guesses on the route but the riverboat in the logo looks an awful like the Twilight in Le Claire.

jimval replied to the topic Pre-RAGBRAI week; looking for place to RV camp with good cell service for work in the forum RAGBRAI XLIV – 2016 4 years, 7 months ago
Cell service should be pretty good all along Interstate 74. Bloomington, or Peoria (Fondulac park?) are good candidates but if it were me (very biased) I would push it a little and stay a couple days in the Quad Cities/Muscatine. Buffalo shores, Clarks Landing, Shady Creek, or Fairport. Buffalo shores is only a couple miles from the Quad city…[Read more]
