Check out this saddle.
You still have plenty of time to get one. I had pretty much the same ailment as you did and with this saddle properly adjusted, the issue went away. Good luck.

Hey Michaela,
Should you get a new bike for the ride? Egh… maybe but probably not. IF IF IF I were in your shoes:
A. they certainly wouldn’t fit
B. I’d take stock of everyone’s opinions and advice here
C. Decide wisely based on your situation.
For starters, a Mongoose with street slicks or road type tires would be my minimal requirement.…[Read more]

Young tough and a little crazy huh? Put some celestial miles on that bod of yours. You’ll then be old, tough and a LOT crazy.

I did my first RAGBRAI in 2015 at age 62. I had about one hundred miles training over 4 rides. I had no issues whatsoever and even did the century part of that ride. Hadn’t biked in about 4 or 5 years prior to then either. BUT here’s the catch. In the past I have biked the perimeter of the USA for those 10,000 miles. The body remembers how…[Read more]

I’ll be leaving from the Scranton Area either the 18th or 19th. I have plenty of room with my Sprinter Van. My schedule is completely flexible but I need to be in Davenport by early evening on Friday.

I’ll be leaving the Scranton area either the 18th or 19th depending on how fast I feel like driving. Need to be in Davenport by early Friday afternoon since the shuttle bus leaves Saturday Morning. Totally flexible on leaving earlier. Will likely be heading straight home after RAGBRAI unless I get a better offer.
I have room for one bike on…[Read more]

My bike rack has one empty space. I intend to leave Thursday (the 19th) since it’s about a 900 mile drive and will be taking the Brancel Charter Bus to the start city on Saturday. If you’re a solo rider from PA, NY, CT etc. or points west of Scranton, PA and would like to hitch a ride either to… or from… or both to & from Davenport, stick a…[Read more]

Life happens and when it does, it either throws a snag into the wheels or provides a tailwind. That being said, it appears that Dead Horse, AK to Key West, FL needs to be put on hold for at least a year or two. Dang. This time it’s a snag. Thank you to those who contacted me with encouragements.

Check out Big Agnes. I’ve used both Thermarest and Big Agnes and MUCH prefer Big Agnes mats. They make several types and all have been comfy to me. Good luck.

IF IF IF you have a little time, I wouldn’t mind getting an email from you. Kate & I drove to Dead Horse this past summer and found the haul road to be in excellent shape BUT there was no rain. I suspect rain could make the road … ummmm… unpleasant.

Thank you Craig & John. We made some potential progress yesterday. An old friend from high school has just retired and he & his wife are seriously willing to drive us to the start point and possibly sag wagon for a few hundred miles. Those are the most critical IMO. The Adventure Cycling advice is sound. That may be another step in the…[Read more]

With RAGBRAI being the world’s largest cycling event what better place to look for a few people to make a much longer ride.
My partner Kate & I are in the process of planning an unsupported bicycle ride from Dead Horse, Alaska (Prudhoe Bay… Arctic Ocean) to Key West, Florida. We are looking for as many as four or more people… preferably…[Read more]

How would you feel about vehicle-pooling and then at the end driving back to the start to pick up a vehicle? That’s a possibility if time isn’t a bigger concern.
