Great to hear from everyone again specially T Gap. This will be my 32 Ragbrai and I met my wife on Ragbrai. I live in Ankeny, Iowa and have heard from riders that drive and fly. Whatever is convenient for you is the plan. Just get here. You are going to have the time of your life.
It would have been great if we would have had T. Gap Woo for entertainment when we were in Storm Lake in the parking lot having refreshments.
My wife and I stayed at Kings Pointe in Storm Lake on which would have been day one on Ragbrai 2020. We enjoyed watching riders ride in on their own. There were busses and trailers out in the parking lot. Someone had a trailer with a built in bar that was serving refreshments. There was a small crowd and we toasted to Ragbrai 2020 and 2021. So, we already have a start on Ragbrai 2021. It has already started. This will be 31 years for me and I met my wife on Ragbrai. Yes , there will be a Ragbrai 2021 !!
Hi , I am just curious. Are you not doing Ragbrai anymore or just not doing it as a club. I have heard teams divided because of the other ride which is sad and I hope that is not the case here. Too many great memories on Ragbrai. I remember seeing your team bus many times. Keep riding and stay safe.
Very difficult decision but the right one. We have to look at the safety of everyone. The Highway Patrol and all the emergency personel would also be exposed. The prediction right now is that the worst is still to come with second and third waves of this virus. There are people in China that have had the virus and are getting reinfected again. We hope to have a vaccine by next spring. This was going to be 30 years of Ragbrai for me , I am looking forward to next year. Stay safe.
Welcome ! RIDE Safe !
Lawnchairman, Your joke came on my email. I think the Park Ranger had something to do with the editing. Funny !!
T.Gap Woo. I think you should be one of the stage acts on the next Ragbrai. At least an opening act. Too funny ! I would attend. We need people like you !!!
Steve H. Congrats on your many years of Ragbrai. Great advice !I have done 30 and hope to be at your 40 someday. Stay safe ! I am always thinking about our fellow riders and how this virus has impacted their lives. God Bless.
If Ragbrai does not happen this year, I plan on visiting a couple of the overnight towns for the day and riding around town. I might even spend the night and enjoying a nice dinner even if it is carry-out. I will respect social distancing if it is still in effect. I do live in the great state of Iowa. It’s home.
In all the years that I have done Ragbrai ( 30) it is the heat that gets most riders not the amount of miles you have ridden. I always tell new riders that after you do a training ride , stay out in the heat. Go work in the garden or go handwash your car. Do not go back into air conditioning. I have seen riders put in thousand+ miles and had to drop out because of the heat. Do not just focus on miles.
I agree with mootsman. Way too early to be thinking about cancellations. China and South Korea are already recovering. This virus does not like heat or humidity .This is still March. This is suppose to taper off and come back late in the year. I would be more concerned about all the football games in the fall and Super Bowl being cancelled.
Hi KenH , did you say work from home or bike from home.I hope you live somewhere warm . Lucky you !
I think that by July,we need to come up with a Ragbrai safe greeting. Maybe just touching helmets or something along that line. I am sure someone or some team will come up with something creative.
Ragbrai will go on. I will give up any money for registration or Charter service . It is not their fault. I will do what ever it takes to keep Ragbrai going for my next generation. I do not expect or want a refund if Ragbrai does not happen. I will do trail rides during that time and be happy not to be at work. I may even visit some of the overnight towns.
