Just take two sets of cycling clothes, no more. Each evening when you take a shower, take the set of cycling clothes you wore that day and wash them in the shower as you take your shower. Wring them out and hang them up to dry. If they are not dry by bedtime, then just let them air dry the next day as you ride down the road. This only works if…[Read more]

The Spazmatics in Ames. They put on a good show.
Keith Misegades replied to the topic RAGBRAI Packing List – 2018 in the forum RAGBRAI XLVI – 2018 2 years, 8 months ago
That’s a good list and it looks like you have just about everything covered.
I might recommend a clothes line(i.e. paracord) if you want to wash anything after a days ride.
I would also ensure that your bike shorts are from 2 different manufacturer and wear a different one each day. Each one can rub you in a little different area and that may…[Read more]

Chamois Butt’r Original Anti-Chafe Cream
Also take two pairs of shorts from different manufacturers that you have worn and tested. Wear a different pair each day; they will rub in just a slightly different place to help ensure no issues.
You more Butt’r than you think you need.

I have always been a registered rider and a bagger even though I don’t use their services. I pay to support everything that the RAGBRAI organization does.
I personally find doing this type of riding on a light weight bicycle letting someone else carry your stuff as not much of a challenge. Don’t get me wrong, riding day after day can be a…[Read more]

Have Peter White Cycles build you a front wheel with an integrated SON generator hub. Take the hub electrical output to charge a cache battery and then plug your devices into the cache battery.
Endless power, no additional panel needed, and it works very well. Been using one for years on many long trips. You can also power a light.
Keith Misegades replied to the topic Best bike style for RAGBRAI in the forum Miscellaneous 2 years, 9 months ago
I would caution against riding narrow tires (i.e. 25 mm or narrower) on this ride. While I do have 5 road bikes with these narrow tires, I will be bringing a bike that accommodates 28mm tires. Why? Iowa has many roads where cracks go down the length of the road in the same direction you are travelling. Narrower tires can get caught in these…[Read more]

Try to get to town earlier than the masses. Unfortunately, most all good camping spots are taken early by the big teams and groups. Be ready to camp further out to get a decent tent spot. You’ll find LOTS and LOTS of tape in the campgrounds roping off the good areas. Seems like RAGBRAI makes all sort of accommodations to teams to the expense…[Read more]

I am riding to the start the week before RAGBRAI? I will be converting RAGBRAI into two week fully load tour carrying all my stuff.
Done this a few times before and find it more rewarding than riding a lightweight road bike a few hundred miles; no offense intended.
Thanks,
