kicks9 replied to the topic Those With Youth Riders: Youth Road Bike? in the forum Miscellaneous 3 years, 6 months ago
I found a couple, Fuji Ace 24 road bike. Has gears, it is a double. My daughter rides it, but is almost big enough for a regular road bike. I think Diamond back makes a kids road bike too.
Not great components, but that keeps the price down since they grow out of them so fast.

Weird rule for PBV. I would put my bike in, but I use my own tent. I think I have done gallon zip lock bags in the past for the seat, that works too. I carry most of my clothes in those so I usually have extras. Might be worth repacking as PBV did leave my bags under the truck one year to keep them dry only to have the bags in a low spot so…[Read more]
kicks9 replied to the topic Question about Breakfast in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 6 months ago
I have packed pop tarts in my pack. I am the same I want to eat right away before getting on the bike.
Then I head to the 2nd stop town (first one is usually very busy) to eat a better breakfast.
Everyone does it different though, good luck and have fun.

Trying to get by 12 year old daughter. She has ridden more with me this year and says she is going with me next year when she is 13. I hope it is true.
kicks9 replied to the topic Karras Loop in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 7 months ago
The map shows you going the other direction. Ragbrai shows you going to Walnut City 2 times, the other map does not. One or the other is a mistake. I’m guessing it is https://www.ridespot.org/rides/108688 as RAGBRAI’s official matches up with miles.

Anyone know where the Keukuk dip site is or where a good place to park for someone to pickup a rider would be?
kicks9 replied to the topic Highway 44 question in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 7 months ago
I’m guessing if we are on a big highway RAGBRAI has taken this into account and restricted traffic that day. Traffic doesn’t want to be mixed in with us because of how many of us we have on the road all day long.
I have ridden past years on big highways that are basically RAGBRAI only for that day.
The trails cannot sustain the traffic of…[Read more]
kicks9 replied to the topic Who all is going to Marne ?? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 7 months ago
So is there something planned for this year in Marne?
Is it on route or off route if there is a party/event? Should we stick around in Marne instead of heading to the next town till we get kicked out?
Please give more details.

Will there be a bus from the airport in Omaha to the events in Council Bluffs?
kicks9 started the topic Hills this year? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 8 months ago
How do the hills look this year?
Day one about 5 miles in, can anyone tell me how that is? It looks like a wall!
Any other major hills this year?
kicks9 replied to the topic Mid-ride meeting in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 8 months ago
PBV didn’t use to post their location, but have plenty of signs on route to find their location. She might have a hard time parking near PBV, but if she can find a place to park she should be fine with everything else. She would be able to meet you halfway one or any days on route. Follow the vehicle route and they meet up everyday about…[Read more]
kicks9 replied to the topic How's the training? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 8 months ago
Mine is OK, not the weather issues you guys are seeing, but life issues.
Got a new job and was bummed because I thought RAGBRAI was a no go this year.
Quit training, then found out the company I am going to will allow me to take a week off in July since I already had it planned so now I am trying to catch up.
Rode 2 times this week…[Read more]

Road bike. I think you will be more comfortable on it in the long run. I would say 90% on this ride are road bikes. The others are all over the place, but fun to look at.
kicks9 replied to the topic Has anyone shipped their bike? in the forum Miscellaneous 3 years, 9 months ago
I have it was years ago so I do not know the cost.
I had to take the handlebars off and pedals and seat post to pack it.
Hint, mark these things before you remove them. Chalk works, or a colored sharpie.
Put back to the line before tightening so that you don’t get new hot spots or knee problems.
Oh and deflate your tires prior to packing…[Read more]

When are you leaving (what day), and do you have more room?
kicks9 replied to the topic Makeshift route ideas using past RAGBRAIs? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 9 months ago
RAGBRAI doesn’t shut down the route to traffic but limits it or at least lets the towns know what routes to avoid the riders. That being said, not sure how traffic will be on those roads without RAGBRAI limiting the traffic. Be careful on these routes.

I have done 100 in one day before so I doubt I will do it again.
kicks9 replied to the topic Wednesday route? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 3 years, 10 months ago
I want to do one, but 116 might be too much this year. 85 for this day might be hard enough.
