A local paper is reporting that the Day 1 final pass-through town is Battle Creek, then Highway 175 NE to overnight town Ida Grove. On Day 2 the route is Highway 175 to M-25 north to the town of Galva, IA.
On Day 6 the final pass-through town is Hawkeye, IA, then entering the overnight town of West Union. The next morning (Day 7, final day) the…[Read more]

On the Iowa Bicycle Coalition website, the $10 option to watch the livestream is now “CLOSED”. How can that be? Did they reach some sort of subscriber maximum? Can one watch the route announcement without paying? Realistically, the route will be posted on social media 30 seconds after it happens, but it’s still fun to watch and I’d spring for…[Read more]

Could someone post a video on how to correctly mount a bike on a cable strung between 2 tractors? I’ve done five RAGBRAI’s and still HAVE NO IDEA how to park my bike without toppling over 12 adjacent bikes. Then, my wife yells at me and it all goes downhill from there.

Well, “the route” is the the route, whether it goes up hills or into towns or industrial areas or pothole fiilled roads or (inexplicably) into Geode State Park. At least you know where the flow of traffic is supposed to go. What I HAVE seen a couple of times is riders getting huffy at having to take a right into a town, and insist on travelling…[Read more]

This is not a violation of your rights, all you have to do is ride down the “back” street parallel to Main Street.

They were all great, but I’d like to compliment all the pass-through towns of the final three days (Waterloo to points east). These were all towns with small populations, yet every single one of them did a terrific job. This in a year when it was understandably hard finding volunteers.

Brancel is terrific-good people. I’ve debated the pass-through town-shoe dilemna and just tolerated the cleats. I do think some cheap dime store flip-flops would work. They’d tuck into the jersey pockets and you wouldn’t be all that upset to lose them.

Town themes from my trusty “2021 RAGBRAI NOTES” Excel file:
LeMars: “LeMars a la Road”
Sac City: “Pop it Like it’s Hot”
Fort Dodge: “Rollin’ on a River”
Iowa Falls: “Nautical by Nature”
Waterloo: “A Waterloo Experience”
Anamosa: “Size Matters, and We Like ’em Big”
DeWitt: “Can You…[Read more]

It’s usually a thin rib-eye steak charred on an outdoor grille and eaten with a bun. Sometimes they’ll grill kebobs, it’s the local groups’s decision. They’re a trade organization that promotes/ features their beef products.

I receieved the same e-mail notification that ” merchandise is on it’s way”. My guess would be it’s the participation packet, maybe with the metal mug tossed in to be more efficient with postage.
Seems early for such a thing, but the wrist and bike bands have just been just sitting around for a year!

This is the history: The party was announced that it would be virtual and cost $25 to benefit the IBC. There seemed to be some consternation about that among the faithful. Then a couple weeks later, a post announced that a free metal water bottle would be sent to registrants. No mention if this was for existing or “new” registrants going…[Read more]

Ironically, about the only place Iowa’s Ride “lives” is on the RAGBRAI Forum. Always great enthusiasm on the website of the institution it tried to kill.

I have subsequently read that Rockwell City dropped out of being a meeting town because of a lack of volunteers. Lake City agreed to take their place. Bummer because RC has a Depression-era post office mural I wanted to visit. No word on why the Day 5 route change.
I did notice the route map straight down the 4 lane divided highway US20.…[Read more]

In looking at the week’s route map on the new website, is it correct that the route has been slightly alterred? For instance, on Day 2 (Sac City to Ft. Dodge) Rockwell City has dropped out as the meeting town in lieu of Lake City. On Day 5 (Waterloo to Anamosa) it seems like Gilbertville, Brandon and Urbana have disappeared as the route travels…[Read more]

Hey young people on the forum: check out Fitness Lynn’s webpage if you want to check out the splendor of web page design available in 1998.
I dunno, this IS the 21st century. I think it is disrespectful to women to somehow yearn for them to prance around in bikinis, loincloths, fishnets and thongs.

Fitness Lynn was an exhibitionist who disappeared from RAGBRAI 16 years ago.

The DeWitt newspaper article already stated the exit route out of town will be north on Humeston Road towards Goose Lake. If they wanted a shorter day the route could then take 136 southeast into Clinton. Or, if RAGBRAI wanted to include the original meeting town, the route could head further north into Preston, then east to Miles, then…[Read more]

The plot thickens! Follow the below link to the DeWitt city council meeting of 11/16/20 and scroll to the end. Item of discussion #25 addresses the RAGBRAI issue. They are concerned with COVID, of course, but are positive to the idea of being an overnight town. One scoop: RAGBRAI will make the ride decision on March 15, 2021.…[Read more]

From meeting town Oxford Junction one could head southeast to De Witt for maybe 10-15 extra miles than what’s figured now for day five. Heading north from De Witt on day 6, one can putz around all day in those hills, even keeping Miles as the meeting town. As the crow flies, De Witt and Clinton are very close but a northeast arc would be, I…[Read more]
