I think they might have an oops on this route map. Since you have to ride the L34/G30 section of the route twice. The total mileage for the day including the gravel loop is 85mi+. I am sure they added 20.9 miles of gravel through McClelland, but did not account for the double miles on the base route.
I hammock camp for RAGBRAI. I have spent 2 nights on the ground in 5 years. I have a bug net and a tarp so rain and bugs are not an issue. So I guess I am the guy saying ‘no problems with a hammock.’ I even take my hammock and straps on the route with me. On a hot day I will find a shady spot on the road side and take a nap.
