Omg, a manatee AND sloth lover – that’s perfect!!
Okay, it’s all yours. I guess – email me? thuebner@rcn.com
I’ve been looking at the “transfer registration” page and it doesn’t look too complicated. I’ll take a closer look at it later after work and start the process.

I bought my pass thinking even at the time that I probably wouldn’t be able to do RAGBRAI because of back problems. But, I figured that even if I didn’t go, this would be my donation to the RAGBRAI organization, to help make sure they had enough people signing up.
So here we are. Likely back surgery ahead for spinal stenosis, and I can’t really…[Read more]

We have a small team: 2 diehards, one person who’s on and off, usually alternate years, I’m generally a diehard with occasional misses. Then there are different adjunct people each year.
So far this year, the 2 diehards are all in, the on and off person is off, no adjuncts, and me, I just signed up! But….I probably won’t do it. I’m not worried…[Read more]

Yep, same here. I love Brancels, but in my mind I know I would have gone with another charter if need be, to stay with RAGBRAI.
Re: the later post about John Karras doing RAGBRAI: that would be EPIC. SO epic.
I actually think registration for RAGBRAI might go up this year – if I were on the fence, and had heard about this brouhaha, it would…[Read more]

That’s a great newsletter. My team goes with Brancels and I’m glad to hear that most people picked Ragbrai with the survey. I certainly did, in no uncertain terms.
I found it telling in the article that someone posted about TJ claiming that there were “discussions” going on behind the scenes, which Ragbrai said they knew nothing about. Who knows…[Read more]

Those are official registration numbers, ie where they have demographic information. What about all the bandits? For some reason, this last year I started paying attention to who was wearing a wristband and/or had the band on their bike. SO MANY BANDITS. And the vast majority that I saw at least were younger. Most were younger women. (I know, I…[Read more]

RAGBRAI existed for 32 years before TJ, and it’ll be fine. A lot of us have zero interest in TJ’s vanity project.
TJ can’t even try to pull this together without resorting to copying RAGBRAI. Not impressed.

2012 was horrible as far as heat, and “ruined” me in that it stayed so hot at night that it was hard to sleep, and for the last few years I’ve frozen at night because I think “oh, I don’t need any kind of blanket!” and it’s gotten pretty cold at night.
I recall the ambulance sirens all day as people were dropping like flies. One day towards the…[Read more]

This idea that the counties have – shut down sales in between towns so everyone will HAVE to stop in the towns – doesn’t quite work the way they think it will. Last year when this happened, by the time I got to the town selling anything, it was of course packed. Beyond reason. I waited in one really long line for coffee, then decided I didn’t have…[Read more]

“Bicycle Bill”: and other than the original post, the others were all responses were more-or-less calling others into question because they had the audacity to express an opinion that was not a carbon-copy, mirror-image of your own. That, to me, is one of the hallmarks of a troll.
Show me ONE PLACE where I legitimately called someone into q…[Read more]

Michrider .: People, people, people, let’s be nice! No more name calling!!! We have not had this type of bitterness in a few years!!! Everyone has his or her own opinion. Let’s need to move on and talk about the fun of RAGBRAI!!! Miss C., I’ll buy you a beverage and discuss any topic you choose, once we get to Iowa!!!!
YOU’RE ON! :-)

Sandaltan: Miss C, you are the first poster to direct the “F you” phrase to another poster and not be sanctioned. Congratulations on being tolerated.
Right, after that person OUT OF THE BLUE with absolutely nothing to back it up called me a TROLL. But THAT’S OKAY, right? Wow, such hypocrisy. Typical.

thangamalang: I hope your happy now. There are many kind people on this forum and a few turds. Don’t be a turd. You do have every right to express your opinion and you have succeeded. You do not have to press your opinion. If you live in Iowa’s 4th district you may vote as you wish.
Wow, this is simply amazing. So now I’m a “turd” (such sop…[Read more]

“Bicycle Bill”: If you wish to compare credentials, well, I’ve ridden this ride something like 22 times going all the way back to 1978, back in the days when it was assumed that you were going to be at least somewhat self-sufficient (rather than have a charter company like Brancel’s or PBV or Bubba’s acting as your hired Sherpas), and have…

Jboz: So ultimately it’s the moderator’s call. And while we do have a constitutional right to free speech, that applies to the government restricting speech, not private entities. For example, I can’t say whatever I want in my work context and claim free speech. I participate in other forums (bikes, wine, travel, etc.) and the moderators (wise…

Thanks to those who have offered intelligent responses to what I think is an interesting topic. The above isn’t one of them – the article and comments to it suggest that people DO care, so I was curious to see if others thought this would manifest itself in small or big ways.

Sandaltan: Enough has been said on this in political forums. This ain’t no goldurn political forum.
This is a RAGBRAI forum and the article references the ride, unless there’s some other bike ride across Iowa you think it’s referring to. So it’s perfectly appropriate for this forum. Who’s trying to stifle free speech NOW?

SFC JKL2: None. Just another example of the modern liberal ploy of stifling free speech.
What does that even mean? Who’s stifling what anyone is saying? King is free to say what he wants, as he’s been doing. People are free to decide to not visit Iowa because of it – that’s what’s called the “free market” at work.

Michrider .: Sounds like Bullshirt to me!!!
I don’t understand what you’re saying? Which part is “bullshirt”? I was just quoting the article – the same thing was in the Register. Do you think the Iowa Tourism Office is making things up? Not sure why they would do that. Curious to hear your thoughts.
