Another big PBV fan. Been using them since they supported less than a 100 people. Yeah it was more personal back then and the campsites were closer in. But like others have said their service cant be beat. They just make it so logistically easy to do RAGBRAI. People dont have to search for showers or find the FedEx truck for shipping…[Read more]
lmgoldberg …. could you post the loop your thinking? As far as I could tell there are no all paved loops other than busy Highway 175 or going on K45. One really needs to zoom in with the satellite view on google maps to see the road type. K45 seems to have a lot less traffic then 175 in the sat view anyway.
Lawnchairman suggested K45 and…[Read more]
I created a loop on mapmyride. Please all feel free to make alternative mods to the loop. It looked interesting to me to go through the Onawa Materials Yard Wildlife Area … although I think there is more gravel this way. 25 miles round trip. I would not mind a longer trip than this but I’m not familiar with the…[Read more]
It seems like you either like it or you dont. I’m a roadie … I brought my touring bike with 35c tires. I understand the joy of being away from traffic and the crowds but man … all that bouncing around is just not fun for me. Did some riding last year the day before the ride on some gravel roads out toward the river. Was with a bunch of…[Read more]
We all know that weather forecasts beyond the next few hours are worthless … but its fun to look.
Weather.com has orange city for 7/21-7/28 … high about 92 … low about 64 … scattered thunderstorm over the weekend. If it does not get above 92 I will be surprised but thats a good forecast … in other words … we are doomed ;) … the…[Read more]
I have ridden RAGBRAI close to 10 times now. All with PBV. The PBV requirement of all bags on
the bus does add a little stress to the morning so the more prepared you are the better.
As for getting up … I usually set my phone alarm to give me enough time but honestly have never needed it because like others have said , so many people are…[Read more]
Yup. You are way fine! The only thing that’s really hard to train for at RAGBRAI is the heat … its OMG hot… at least for us from the northern parts of the country. I’m from NH and it kills me every time. And its not so much the riding, its the heat walking around towns and at the campground and at night trying to sleep. Oh and maybe be…[Read more]
I’m a beg believer in portable cots … if you dont have to lug it yourself.
Gets you off the ground. Never have to worry about uneven surface or stuff getting wet. Firm and supportive. Works for me.
I have a Big Grizzly … got it on Amazon
