I was thinking Dubuque would be a good ending town. It would get the mileage up and there would be some hills. I know some people like to end with a short day but since we missed out in 2020, we need to make up a few miles. Just a thought.

This is a fun thread. I can relate to some of the experiences shared here. Sorry, I have a rather long post. My first experience is through the stories in the Des Moines Resister covering the first ride, I think in 1973. My father informed me of this ride he was keeping me updated as he would read about it in the paper. I would have been 15 years…[Read more]

My personal observations on the younger participants, unless you have a parent taking their child on the ride, it would be difficult to get the really young ones involved. That’s where it should begin. I took my son on RAGBRAI when he was 14 yrs old. He did four rides and suddenly it was important for him to work, then college, then a new job, a…[Read more]

My random thoughts.
* Whether or not the DMR apologizes, I think the DMR knows they screwed up. This may eventually be in future business textbooks as a case study on how NOT to handle a PR crisis. They got their black eye.
* Often a crisis like this will eventually strengthen an organization, if they act on it properly.
* I’m not aware of a…[Read more]

Much- how about an update? Doubt you are back on the saddle yet. Are you able to sit on a curb and drink a beer yet?

Is nobody anticipating a route that ends with a Mississippi River tour? We have the eagle that is alleged to be a hint. My guess is the ride will end with an overnight stop on a Mississippi town and end on the Mississippi. How does this sound: overnight at Dubuque and end the ride at Gutenberg?

I suggested this a few years ago and maybe the eagle is the hint. Could this be the first year to do an overnight at a Mississippi River town? Arrive at the Mississippi on Friday and then Saturday follow the river to the ending town. How does this sound: Friday night in Dubuque then ride to Gutenberg on Saturday? We know eagles like to hang out by…[Read more]

KenH – Also as an engineer, I have to agree with you. I guess that is one reason why engineers drive me nuts. It is almost like being allergic to yourself.

LeslieD – did you pay DMR direct or did you funnel it through the group coordinator?
Tim McTaggart replied to the topic Confused about new registration in the forum RAGBRAI XLIV – 2016 5 years, 2 months ago
I’m confused on registration. I signed up with a group. Did the waiver. Hit submit. In years past we mailed the registration fee to the group and they in turn submitted one check to DMR for the whole group. When I read the instructions it sounds like we pay directly to DMR. However, I do not recall seeing the payment page. Thinking I wasn’t…[Read more]
