I don’t believe they rent tents. Everybody seems to do their own tent. I have a tent from Menards that cost around $50. It’s been through a couple of storms and did not leak. You are allowed 2 bags so carrying everything you need is not a problem. The more times you do RAGBRAI the less stuff you bring.
czysk replied to the topic Charters back to the Starting Town?? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVIII – 2020 12 months ago
Leave your car in the end town and catch a ride with a charter to the start town. If you get done early you can get a shower at a local school or YMCA, get in your and start for home instead of waiting for the bus to fill up.

I have used Brancel for 9 RAGBRAIs. They are awesome! They’re smaller than PBV, so many times our campground has shade when PBV does not. Sometimes we’re both in the sun. Very organized and on top of things. Bob, Debbie, and team are great! Highly recommend!
czysk replied to the topic What's with the beaded roadkill ? in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 3 months ago
I first rode RAGBRAI in 2010. The first few years the road kill had beads and stickers on them.
A couple of times the road kill I saw looked like the same road kill that I saw the day before, like someone moved it to the next days route. The beaded road kill seemed to disappear for a few years only to return again. I like addition of the beer cans…[Read more]

Are vendors still allowed to set up along the route? I thought I heard they were not. I love eating a Farm Kids breakfast along the route.

Several of the overnight towns have municipal swimming pools. They are always great for cooling down your core temperature
czysk replied to the topic First timer in the forum RAGBRAI XLVII – 2019 1 year, 10 months ago
First timer, Your registration allows you to put your bag and tent on the Register’s truck and camp in the main camp ground. A charter has a smaller camp ground and may be less crowded. You will make a whole bunch of new friends either way. Enjoy the ride.

Megandoty, That bridge in your profile photo looks like several that I have crossed on previous
Ragbrais. Downhill to get there and uphill after crossing.

I have ridden RAGBRAI every year for the last eight years. This year I have a scheduling conflict and will not be able to ride in Iowa. How does the weather compare to Iowa? How are the hills? Is food and water readily available? I realize after riding RAGBRAI other rides may seem lame, but this ride sounds like a good alternative. Appreciate any…[Read more]
czysk replied to the topic Frame Size? in the forum Miscellaneous 3 years, 9 months ago
Try a frame that is suggested for you by the bike shop, then try the next size down. I had three bikes that were 56cm, rode a 54cm in between and was told it was to small. Cleaned and adjusted my sisters 54cm and of course I had to put some miles on it and it felt like an old shoe. I bought a new 54cm. The fitter told me I could ride either size.…[Read more]

Kevin,
The picture of you with your touring bike reminds me of Doug Clifford, the Credence Clearwater Revival drummer on the Cosmo’s Factory album cover

The 1.1 comes with Shimano Claris which is an 8 speed running gear. The 1.2 comes with the Shimano Sora which is a 9 speed running gear. The Sora may have a better low gear for hill climbing. Either bike will work. If you can spring for the extra $200 I would get the 1.2 Some of the other components may be better also. I rode RAGBRAI on a bike…[Read more]

Hey Bicycle Bill. Where is Asbury Hill? Is it on Asbury Rd? My daughter lives on Seippel Rd and Commerce Park. We turned south on Seippel from Pennsylvania/Middle Rd in 2010. Is it as bad as Potter Hill?

I don’t know about 2016, but in 2011 I believe we camped at the High School. The Expo was in a parking lot across a walk bridge over a small creek. May have been at the Middle School? I do remember a Stealth Bomber flying overhead and putting on a cool show.

We can usually locate a laundromat in the overnight town. It can be a pain in the neck but clean clothes are worth it. If you are doing riding clothes you can get a real large ZipLoc bag 16″x16″ approx. Bring along some single wash packs of Tide liquid and put the clothes, water, and Tide in the bag. Seal the bag and shake and slosh the bag for…[Read more]

I guess the main thing would be SAG and medical along the route. That said, I would probably ride bandit if I had to.
