The big bacon ride is rescheduled to August 1. I expect the biggest turn-out ever for what has been a dress rehearsal/tuneup for RAGBRAI. If you are of a mind to bike more than one day there are hundreds of miles of trails to explore in Central Iowa and innkeepers that will be happy to see you after your ride.
“The sad fact is that the RAGBRAI organization will probably be running in the red for at least a year just to meet their payroll.”
I can’t imagine what demands are required of the RAGBRAI staff besides refunding registrations from now until the 2021 route is surveyed next winter, surveyed yet again that is. Amanda Parrott can handle the refunds.…[Read more]
Jboz: Cautionary on CNC; we had four days of rain on our two CNC rides some many years ago. Take warm clothes, yes even gloves, and rain gear. The Little Stoker was on a Vision R40 with no front fender, so much water kicked up and drained into the fork that when we got home and I hung the bike upside down on hooks more than half a cup of water…[Read more]
I am convinced that there will be no RAGBRAI this year. No doubt in my mind. Gannett will not take a risk that would surely be litigated very thoroughly. I believe the decision has already been made in McLean Virginia.
Murphymp: Did as you described. Eight of us stayed at Victoria’s Bed and Breakfast in Xenia, Ohio and had a great time some years ago, garage to store bikes and pool table upstairs. Five trails intersect at Xenia. We have visited Xenia five times in the last 8 or 9 years, don’t miss Yellow Springs, craft brewery right on the trail. Plenty of…[Read more]

Anne Lawrie, marketing director for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, said there will be a decision April 15 about whether the nation’s largest annual bike tour will happen as scheduled in mid-July. There’s a complex checklist of things to organize, from merchandising to logistics along the…[Read more]
Continued: Parrott wasn’t a ringleader in the team’s messy exit: Instead, she got caught up in a whirlwind, she says, not able to stop and think in the short time between when former RAGBRAI Director T.J. Juskiewicz offered her a role with his new cycling venture, Iowa’s Ride, and when his TV news interviews and social media posts publicly tende…[Read more]
“It’s terrific that Andrea Parrott is back. Although, it is surprising that RAGBRAI would hire anyone given that the organization will, more than likely, be running a deficit for a year.”
Andrea has the institutional knowledge that was sorely lacking among those presented as the RAGBRAI Crew at the route announcement party. The success of the n…[Read more]
I have no doubt that refunds will be issued. Very likely the RAGBRAI staff you saw on the stage at the route announcement party is either furloughed or has returned to whatever function they performed before they were pressed into service to support RAGBRAI. Prospects are not rosy at the Register.
If you search Gannett layoffs you may agree.…[Read more]
Governor Reynolds, may make the ultimate call on RAGBRAI, her highway patrol is a vital ingredient to our ride and she may not wish to risk even a single one of those troopers. The same holds true for our Iowa State Fair.
RIDE RIGHT …. thinking about taking up sudoku or learning to bake carrot cake.
