Tent fan has been said, but it is a must for me. I pack electrolyte tablets, usually put a couple in one water bottle, and plain water in the other. Between Casey’s, Wally Worlds, and vendors you can pick up pretty much anything else.
I’ve made one fit in my wire cage, but I had to bend it some. Best to get one of the over-sized cages with a strap. Also check to see if there is a firmware update before you leave, I know it had some pairing issues early on.
Just saw that there’s going to be a rather large off-route party at Woodward so there’s bound to be heavy bus traffic on 17. RAGBRAI bus drivers know to watch for riders, but I’d still be a little wary about riding that way, esp. solo.
If you’re going to make a sign, which I think is a good idea, make a couple and place the first one half a mile to a mile ahead of where you’re going to be at. Give people some time to think about stopping before they have to.
I’ve heard several teams say they’re going to ride the Raccoon River Trail to Perry, and then gravel travel thru Bouton to where the trail starts in Woodward. My team took that route in 2013 from Perry.
Chuck City was the worst overnight imo. Closed all their bars to force people into the bear garden. Couldn’t get a cocktail, had to buy beer tickets, and they didn’t have an ATM(had to go to the bank down the street).
Waukon had a cool overnight, got drunk on top of a old railroad caboose. 10/10, would do again.
