Late January. Historically the last Saturday of January. Last year they did it the last Friday night in January, my hunch is that will be the case going forward.

I thought I saw somewhere where Matt said don’t expect the same route for the 50th as was the first. Now, was that just to keep the suspense up, or is that accurate? Hmmmm. And just how many riders will they take? 40K? More? Umm. No thanks. Unless I win the Tipico giveaway, I’ll probably pass. Just my personal preference but I think that…[Read more]

Yeah, I realized that and it wouldn’t let me edit. Rookie mistake! Actually, by adding a town I can do what I was trying to do start a bit south and weave north:
Missouri Valley
Ida Grove
Cherokee
Emmetsburg
Mason City
Decorah
Manchester
Dubuque

In a little over 24 hours, the speculations will be moot, and we will know. I feel like I’m eight years old and it is Christmas Eve.

I don’t use rain gear if it is warm weather. If it is chilly, which I doubt will be an issue but then I would have a jacket and shoe covers to keep those things dry and a bit warmer.

I have had many different, I would say it is very personal. That said, I recently discovered https://theblackbibs.com/ For $40.00 they feel like bibs I’ve paid $175 for. I just ordered two more pair, and am aiming to have seven pair by July.

Being XLIX will be my first I have been having fun looking at maps of Iowa and the previous overnight towns list to try and guess. The monkey in the wrench is that most people think next year will closely mimic the first RAGBRAI for the 50th. So that generally takes out central Iowa for this year. So does it stay way south, or go north to way…[Read more]

Some great points by others already. I would add, if you can’t ride your bike, would you have access to a gym with spin bikes where you can get some saddle time in? In addition, when you do get back on your bike pay attention to contact points. Feet, butt, and hands. If those are comfortable you will be able to ride longer and stronger than if…[Read more]

I am coming out from California and planning on driving. For me, I enjoy a good road trip, and since RAGBRAI might not be enough cycling, I am thinking about a couple of stops on the way home to take a bit of a ride!

2022 will be my first, so it will all be new to me! That said I like maps and it is fun to speculate. Has anybody ever run a pool on guessing the towns? Haha. Looking at the history, it is not a definite rotation, but it does look like the southern corridor is due.

A potential solution for the future? 1 hour before the end of published service time no more adult beverages; sort of a “last call.” 30 minutes before the end, the music is cut off. At end of service time, water only, anyone coming in or still there is strongly encouraged to sag to the next town.
