When I was a kid, periodically family or friends would come to visit at our farm for an afternoon or evening – “company”. It was customary to have a dessert to share. Looking forward to 35th & Taylor in Onawa. Also, the Brazillian(?) duo. Guess I’d better review those overnight websites so I know which town has which entertainment. Always fun to hear & see someone new. Disappointed we will miss Maddie Poppe this year, but will hope for another year.

My driver says depending on how everything goes – they should be able to pick us up (at your campsite or other designated spot, presumably).

Quite possibly if we could get close, will also check on that with my team driver. He may be able to come pick us up wherever you are camping, but I don’t know – not sure where we are staying in Onawa yet.

I’m thinking we can get a ride up to Hwy 20 around Webster City area and meet you there. I’ll check on that this weekend. Our team will provide us a ride from Davenport back at the end of the week.

In the 3 years I have ridden RAGBRAI my shoes have either been tennis shoes or regular Keen sandals. They have worked well for me and my style of riding. In 2014 there was a school group, I believe, in Emmetsburg serving Maid Rites. Those really hit the spot for a native Iowan no longer able to get those in my local area. Fresh salad is a nice treat also but I can understand the limitations there also.

My 2015 & 2016 emails arrived middle of the night. I don’t get up at midnight to check, though. When I open my email after breakfast, they’ve been there.

Those few individuals who ride left of the yellow center line, then yell at the oncoming motorist because their car doesn’t move further to the shoulder. Since the roads are not closed to autos, we are to keep our bikes on the right of center when there is oncoming traffic. How important is it to use my road/RAGBRAI bike (in my case, a hybrid) on the trainer? I have an older bike I could use on the trainer and leave my preferred bike available. For conditioning purposes, it seems to me it may not be a big issue. Am I correct?

I’ve been thinking of getting an indoor trainer to prepare for 2018 – and help keep that winter pudge at bay. But…I would be glad for suggestions. I would like to be able to easily remove my bike anytime I find a warm winter/spring day that calls me to ride outside. It looks like there are many different price ranges and, I assume, quality levels.
