Bringing the Salsa La Cruz for the gravel loop and riding it the rest of the week. Weather depending.

Hey, I’m from Minnesota. We’ve had Jessie Ventura, Michelle Bachman, Al Franken and everything in between. But don’t hold it against all of us no matter how stupid you think the choice may have been.

Sucks getting cold and wet even during RAGBRAI. Bring a light jacket, wear it on your back, in a pack or on your rack. With some kind of sleeves you can’t go wrong.
Ken Askew replied to the topic What should we expect at campgrounds? in the forum RAGBRAI XLV – 2017 6 years, 7 months ago
Jim: Expect mayhem. The general campground is designated each day, but if you have transport for your gear, there will be many alternatives. At the designated campground you get space where you can find it. First come picks what they want. You should be able to see the locations shortly before the ride. If you have a support vehicle they may want…[Read more]

Igor: First time Mr. Karras handed me a patch, I did the same thing. Felt like a missed opportunity to at least recognize and acknowledge an icon. Heard people chattering after and tried to turn around, just to pay homage, but in a matter of minutes the line was so long we had to tuck tail and head out. Made up for it the next year. We owe him and…[Read more]

So a few comments about Potter’s Hill. Anyone know what day and part of the route is closest to Potter’s and would it be accessible from our designated route? Just curious.

Does it look like the dip site may be down stream?
Ken Askew replied to the topic Garmin question in the forum RAGBRAI XLV – 2017 6 years, 8 months ago
KenH: Back in the day, you probably just looked at your wrist watch and counted the revolutions for an interval and did the math in your head. With the cadence monitor, HRM, GPS, power meters, cell and all the other electronics now it seemed more simple then. But does anyone know how best to download the route on a Garmin 520? GeoBike?
Ken Askew replied to the topic Day 1 – Question in the forum RAGBRAI XLIV – 2016 7 years, 4 months ago
My first day on RAGBRAI a young woman decided to stop on a hill, in the middle of the road, in the middle of a pack. I was following too closely and although no one went down, it was by the grace of god only. We learned quickly not to tailgate, even at 10 MPH. I always think we need more communication and people need to try, just try to ride right…[Read more]

I pee bottle for the tent. Large wet wipes in case I miss the bottle. Spray in case the wet wipes aren’t enough. Lots of chamois creme.

Bring a credit card with you in case of mechanical issues. The bike mechanics will do a lot of things for free or on the cheap, but any emergency replacement parts need to be paid for. You may be surprised what can break at the least opportune moment. Waiting for the shuttle because of a mechanical can be long and lonely.
