Bump’in up. It is one thing to ask people to pick up trash for free on a hot summer day, and another to ask them to do it in a suffocating mask and spend extra time on a medical survey and screening after they were vaxed months ago, all for an outdoor event with little risk.
Normal life they will go for, more of the same of what they have not…[Read more]
The three day on-street limit is usually so they can remove derelict/abandoned vehicles without waiting too long, but you never know for sure. Auto repair places and dealers usually have a day rate they charge insurers. Sometimes on-street cars near these or apartment buildings do not get bothered. Last year, I found the parking space I had…[Read more]
The route may not have special police services prior to the end of service time if biker traffic has fallen off enough. Another important thing is that it is also the last sweep of the Ragbrai sag wagon, which generally starts five miles outside of the start town. The sag wagon will take registered riders and their bikes (perhaps later for the…[Read more]
Do not ever do anything this stupid ever again. If there is any disagreement, perhaps Gannet corporate needs to review whether sending 15,000 bicycles through a loose gravel parking lot falls within the ‘accepted risk’ terms of the standard waiver. It is interesting that police were shutting down every private gathering upstream, but not this…[Read more]
It is a legit charter, so scam unlikely. Some of them have a meet-up hotel in Omaha, so if you know that you can try calling the meet-up for info and perhaps a working contact. Charters tend to re-use the same place each year, so if Google turns up an old place, check them out. My next move would be to see if you can find a cc list in their…[Read more]
Looks like someone is running on old info. If the poster’s reason for finding the mystery tent is to do something like buy a day pass, then verify with official sources, Ragbrai itself, to see if this even happens anymore. I only know of a limited number of day passes being available at the overnight town merchandise trailer and the baggage…[Read more]
This was discussed about two weeks ago as well as in years past. There is not a service. Best advice people have is to split driving duties and meet along the route, otherwise make friends with support crew who could appreciate the extra income, but be sure to work with their tight schedule and have a completely reliable vehicle. Extra keys for…[Read more]
Plus one me on the benefits of a well ventilated tent. That should eliminate the need for a fan. I do not look at a tent as a hotel room so I am not in it at 4pm on a hot day. Alps is a good low cost provider, as are REI model change clearance sales. Setup and sprinkler test the tent beforehand and seal any leaks. A headlamp is essential for…[Read more]
Princeton Illinois is the closet Amtrak to Davenport. There is actually an old canal trail with a few free camp sites that leads most of the way there. Probably too far by bike to make an early train. Princeton is just off interstate 80. If you can leave for Chicago (or Princeton/Galesburg) on Saturday you will have more options.
