I grew up in NE Ohio (Ashtabula County) but now call Des Moines home. I’ve ridden RAGBRAI 4 times now and would be more than willing to help a fellow Buckeye with any questions you may have. Feel free to shoot me a private message if you’d like as well. All I can say is you will have the time of your life. It is unlike any other ride you have ever…[Read more]
Warren County (Indianola area) is widely know across the state has having some of the worst roads in the entire state. It is an absolute shame. The county is poorly run at the top, the engineers office has traditionally been a revolving door job, it has been direly underfunded and their secondary roads are notoriously impassable for weeks out of…[Read more]
I can’t find the vehicle maps on the website. I know I saw them released on an email a few days ago but I cant seem to locate them now, anywhere. I’m sure they are probably right there staring at me somewhere but I cant find them. Can anyone point me to them?
As much as I dont advise it, I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of people riding along Hwy 92 straight over from Indianola to Winterset all afternoon on Tuesday. Since it is such a short day (only 39 miles) riding back to Winterset at the end of ride only adds about 24 miles to make an average RAGBRAI day anyway. Again, I dont advise it,…[Read more]
Dan – Not sure if you are familiar with the area but if no one responds here, you should be able to get over the MAC very easily via uber, taxi, etc. It is only about 5 miles, you could even ride your bike or walk for that matter. Just fyi, it is a very short distance. Good luck.
Ken, like was said….they dont weigh them after day one as far as I’ve seen; never on day 5. You should be fine. Just be certain your RAGBRAI tag is on your bag. You dont really get approved, you just throw your bag on the truck yourself in the morning BEFORE 8:00 am. Careful on the ramps, I’ve seen more slips and falls than you would think.
that bag will be just fine, there really are no dimension restrictions. I have a 155L dry bag / back pack and it is no problem. Last year it weighed 37 pounds at check in. No worries on size really, just weight. Do not exceed 50 lbs. and they do weigh them.
Enjoy the ride.
Rachelle – You are largely far too late this year. Most towns applications are closed and rider / host matches have been made. Mark your calendar for May 1 next year, that is the first day you are allowed to apply and this the first day most of the overnight towns have the info and applications on their respective websites.
Serious question here….I keep seeing requests for non-rider passes or non rider wristbands either wanted or for sale. What exactly is a non-rider wristband/pass? What are they needed for? What do they get you? My wife meets me every year for a day/night along the ride and I have never purchased a non rider wristband for her, should I be?…[Read more]
