coloradshortbus – Sadly, I believe you are correct on all fronts. Plus, think it about it like this for a minute. Rural Le Mars Iowa has about 9,000 residents. Thus far, they have been largely minimally impacted. You think they want 30,000 people from all over the infected globe and country coming to stay in their tiny little confined areas….not…[Read more]
Wow, unbelievable how much has changed in a week since I originally posted this. Even the responses, over time, have gone from….not a chance of cancellation to hoping it is cancelled for the good of everyone. Sad really but I would bet a good chunk of my quickly dwindling live savings, RAGBRAI will go the way of every other activity right now…[Read more]
I know it is unlikely but if RAGBRAI is cancelled because of Covid-19, does anyone know if they would refund all registration fees? I guess this question is probably more directed to the RAGBRAI staff really. I sent an unrelated question to their info@ragbrai email inbox recently and have not heard back so thought posting here might get an answer…[Read more]
Boy, this is a tough one. There wont be any shuttles running to Storm Lake on Sunday. Your best bet is going to be finding someone in the same boat that has already figured it out and has a ride, driver, etc. and seeing if she can tag along. In early July, the “the looking for rides” section of this forum will fill up. I would definitely post then…[Read more]
Hey RAGBRAI veterans….anyone recall where the main campgrounds were in 2005 in Le Mars? I assume it was either the fairgrounds or the high school but just wondering if anyone who rode that year recalls. That was my pre-RAGBRAI life so I dont have a clue. Thanks in advance.
Don’t have time right this minute to go through all your questions but quickly, so you dont end up at the wrong event, it is not a race. It is a ride, not a race. Not sure what the MS150 is but if it is a race, you may be a competitive racer, this is not a race at all, fyi.
Not sure if you’ve done RAGBRAI before but you do not need to get campground reservations or pay to camp. RAGBRAI provides multiple campgrounds for both tent camping and RV camping as long as you are a registered rider. No need to pay extra for it. In May or June, each town will have their website up with maps of all the campgrounds. See you in July!
It will rain when riding East on RAGBRAI…..one day?? maybe five days, you never know. It will rain riding West on Iowas Ride. One day?? maybe five days, you never know. Get some good rain riding gear, make sure your tent is good and waterproof at the seams. Pay attention to the radar and reports…stay and have an extra bloody in the morning if…[Read more]
I imagine once the RAGBRAI route is announced, you will get more responses on this. I am guessing a lot of people are waiting to see how close the routes are. If RAGBRAI starts down south like Glenwood or somewhere like that, you will have a lot fewer people riding both or at least all of both. If it starts closer to the end town of Iowas Ride,…[Read more]
Intellectual property??? It’s a big bike ride…..two wheels, chains, spokes and seats. Add in some campgrounds, food and entertainment and there you have it. Seriously, don’t mistake experience, institutional knowledge, relationships, key contacts, etc, with IP. I have no animosity against TJ, in fact, I’m thinking about riding his ride. I have…[Read more]
I grew up in NE Ohio (Ashtabula County) but now call Des Moines home. I’ve ridden RAGBRAI 4 times now and would be more than willing to help a fellow Buckeye with any questions you may have. Feel free to shoot me a private message if you’d like as well. All I can say is you will have the time of your life. It is unlike any other ride you have ever…[Read more]
Warren County (Indianola area) is widely know across the state has having some of the worst roads in the entire state. It is an absolute shame. The county is poorly run at the top, the engineers office has traditionally been a revolving door job, it has been direly underfunded and their secondary roads are notoriously impassable for weeks out of…[Read more]
