Interesting and great point on the Bacoon ride. One day of this brewery hopping ride is already done, planned out, entertainment booked, camping available, etc. Just bookend the Bacoon with a ride on Friday maybe on the High Trestle and Sunday in and around DSM and you will have had a very fun three days. This is definitely doable. You could even…[Read more]
I dont have a route or plan but it sure sounds like an interesting idea, one I would enjoy. It is certainly doable and you could do much of it on some great trails as well. One day on the Raccoon River trail, one day on the High Trestle trail and one day in and around DSM with a quick run down to Cumming. All based in or around DSM somewhere. Good…[Read more]
I think you are about dead on for RAGBRAI next year at 50 / 50 odds. That in and of itself is rather sad but it is what it is. Only time will tell at this point. I sure hope a vaccine can be drastically accelerated and produced in large quantities or one hell of a sure fire treatment is proven out quickly so we can ride next year. Stay safe…[Read more]
When the Iowa State Fair announces its cancellation, it will truly be like the summer that never happened in Iowa 🙁 Now, lets all hope like heck a vaccine or effective treatment is unveiled before about this time next year or we will be taking bets on 2021 RAGBRAI being cancelled too. An all around sad situation for sure.
I think 2020 is a foregone conclusion. The question now, as someone pointed out in a different thread, is will we ride in 2021 🙁
Covid 19 is a highly, highly contagious pandemic virus with no treatment and no vaccine. If you can’t intuitively process the difference between that and smoking…..well, I’m pretty sure no one on here is going to be…[Read more]
If there is no effective vaccine by Spring 2021, we can kiss RAGBRAI good bye until 2022.
Interesting seeing this quote, I thought I might be the only one. I had this conversation with someone today regarding the cancellation of RAGBRAI 2021. And, I agree that without a vaccine by next Easter (330 million doses of it too) there will be no RAGBRAI…[Read more]
I’m with you Ken. I think a cancellation or “postponement” until July of 2021 is all but done. Till then, you folks stay safe and healthy and I sure hope to see some of your familiar names about this time next year 🙂
Sandaltan – I believe you are correct. For whatever it’s worth too, Le Mars had a town meeting scheduled for yesterday or day before to announce their theme, logo, give updates on planning, etc, etc. As you may know from years past, the announcement parties are always a big deal. This one was cancelled. Not moved on-line, not rescheduled, not…[Read more]
I wouldn’t put much thought into what is or isn’t on the website. Hell, TJ is still listed as the RAGBRAI director on the contacts link on the RAGBRAI app on my phone. It has never been updated since he left last fall.
No full route announcement, not a single overnight town has a website up and running let alone a simple FB page that can be created in 3 minutes, the news is worse every day. The number of cases grows every day. The body count grows every day. Suffice it to say, the indicators are not good that we will be in Le Mars on July 18th 🙁 Stay safe my friends.
coloradshortbus – Sadly, I believe you are correct on all fronts. Plus, think it about it like this for a minute. Rural Le Mars Iowa has about 9,000 residents. Thus far, they have been largely minimally impacted. You think they want 30,000 people from all over the infected globe and country coming to stay in their tiny little confined areas….not…[Read more]
Wow, unbelievable how much has changed in a week since I originally posted this. Even the responses, over time, have gone from….not a chance of cancellation to hoping it is cancelled for the good of everyone. Sad really but I would bet a good chunk of my quickly dwindling live savings, RAGBRAI will go the way of every other activity right now…[Read more]
I know it is unlikely but if RAGBRAI is cancelled because of Covid-19, does anyone know if they would refund all registration fees? I guess this question is probably more directed to the RAGBRAI staff really. I sent an unrelated question to their info@ragbrai email inbox recently and have not heard back so thought posting here might get an answer…[Read more]
Boy, this is a tough one. There wont be any shuttles running to Storm Lake on Sunday. Your best bet is going to be finding someone in the same boat that has already figured it out and has a ride, driver, etc. and seeing if she can tag along. In early July, the “the looking for rides” section of this forum will fill up. I would definitely post then…[Read more]
Hey RAGBRAI veterans….anyone recall where the main campgrounds were in 2005 in Le Mars? I assume it was either the fairgrounds or the high school but just wondering if anyone who rode that year recalls. That was my pre-RAGBRAI life so I dont have a clue. Thanks in advance.
Don’t have time right this minute to go through all your questions but quickly, so you dont end up at the wrong event, it is not a race. It is a ride, not a race. Not sure what the MS150 is but if it is a race, you may be a competitive racer, this is not a race at all, fyi.
Not sure if you’ve done RAGBRAI before but you do not need to get campground reservations or pay to camp. RAGBRAI provides multiple campgrounds for both tent camping and RV camping as long as you are a registered rider. No need to pay extra for it. In May or June, each town will have their website up with maps of all the campgrounds. See you in July!
