Yea, not great communication on it but it does appear they have reversed course and will no longer be charging for the Livestream and instead offering it to all at no cost. Ten bucks was not really a big deal, I wonder what drove the decision to change paths? Oh well, see you in July.
I’ll just consider it a $10 contribution to the Iowa Bicycle coaltion. It’s really a pretty small fee in the scheme of things. I just hope the quality, sound, buffering, etc, etc is improved over past years. If it’s no charge, it’s hard to gripe about quality. Even for the nominal $10, it at least better work right.
All entries noted and filled in on my spreadsheet. Beers for you and your team in the start town Saturday will indeed be awarded to the winner, should there be one. Some good routes guessed thus far. It sure seems like most think we are going north this year, which I tend to agree with. A couple weeks and we will know!
Karen – Welcome to RAGBRAI. As Dizzy said, there will be camping available on Friday in the start town. You are just a bit ahead of the game in your planning. Once the overnight towns are announced later this month, the wheels start turning. Camping on Friday will likely be announced in May or June but rest assured, you will have a place to lay…[Read more]
I carry two trash bags in my bike bag all the time. Pop my head and two arms through and its ready to go. If rain is forecast and inevitable, I will bring / wear a very cheap, light, rain jacket I got for making some donation or another years ago :) The first day in 2019 from Council Bluffs to Atlantic it rained ALL day as I recall. That…[Read more]
Danny and Amanda – Your entries are noted. Lots of people planning on heading North this July, uh? You know what that means, right? With all of us guessing North, we’ll probably end up on the Missouri border :)
Here’s what I think: Rock Rapids, Okoboji, Algona, Mason City, Charles City, New Hampton, Decorah, and Lansing.
Ok Ken, you are officially entered in the contest. Beers on me in Rock Rapids if you win :) By the way, your guesses are in the same neighborhood has mine for sure. Cant wait till January 28th to find out.
(RAGBRAI staff, we need a new category in the forums, RAGBRAI 2022, fyi)
It does not appear there is going to be a guess the route contest again this year. So, how about we do it here instead? Anyone have any ideas, tips, inside info, good guesses, Dieter sightings, etc, etc?
My best guess thus far is an extreme North route, kind of hugging the…[Read more]
If time is not an issue, a drive out with your daught would probably turn out to be a great bonding time; not to mention the following week on RAGBRAI. You could drive to the end town. There will be plenty of long term parking there for a modest fee. You then hitch a ride with one of the MANY charters, busses, etc heading to the start town. You…[Read more]
Interesting Ken that is the reason. That would mean then that RAGBRAI must be informing the host towns of their selection prior to the announcement party. Otherwise, there really is no way for them to logistically prepare, staff, creat a booth, literature, etc, etc in only hours. My guess is that if this is the new practice, it will leak out prior…[Read more]
Phil – There are multiple businesses / charters that provide the service you are looking for. People fly into DSM from all over the country and the world for RAGBRAI so it is a service in demand. They usually start with busses on Friday and run through Saturday afternoon. Prices will vary depending where the start town is (how far from DSM) and…[Read more]
A sad day for sure and the end of an era with the passing of the final Founding Father. It is now up to all of us and future generations to carry on the ride and the legacy they together started and carried on for nearly 50 years before handing it off to all of us. Let’s make them proud for the next 50! See you all in July to do just that!
Someone from RAGBRAI commented on a FB post regarding the reference to 8 days. Their response was that it was a nod and acknowledgement to the starting town being the 1st day, with Sunday, the first day of riding, being day two of RAGBRAI; not an additional day of riding.
Kind of a related two questions…..Next year it is going to be year 50 for RAGBRAI but only the 49th ride due to last years Covid cancellation. Do you think it will be marketed, celebrated, touted as the 50th year of RAGBRAI or do you think they will hold on to those references until 2023 for the 51st year but the 50th ride? I hope that makes…[Read more]
Oh and I almost forgot, I had the best breakfast pizza in my life at Leons Pizza in Webster City, it was fantastic. And, I was not a big fan of the $5 cover charge (for non riders) in Iowa Falls to get in the walled compound. My wife met me that night and I was kind of suprised she had to pay a cover to get in there. Not a big deal in the scheme…[Read more]
I thought Le Mars was the best starting town in years! They were the only town, I believe, with a functioning website that included maps, entertainment, sponsors, etc. They communicated often on social media, the town was welcoming, the entertainment was good especially the Tom Petty cover band (except for those poor women from KC that did the…[Read more]
I don’t get the point of a hotel that night. Seems like a lot of hassle. Like someone said, cancel and save the money by just staying at the main campground. That first morning at the main campground is the best. Good luck though…
Early forecasts are for temps +/- 95 degrees on Saturday which probably means overnight lows in the 70’s and or 80’…[Read more]
Pro Tip #1 if you do follow my advice. Always put your bag under the truck in the rear, behind the back wheels, never in front of the back wheels. If that truck fills up first and leaves before you get there, you can thank me later :) FYI, if you do this, you will not be the only one. Many people have a very small bag/pack in their bigger bag.…[Read more]
