Don’t pass by the hit-and-miss engines hooked up to the churns cranking out homemade ice cream! They are usually located next to the Amish pie ladies, who offer a plethora of homemade pies of all varieties. Buy the pie first, then get a big dollop of ice cream on top. It’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!
I always enjoy the weekly podcast but this weeks coverage of the pre ride has me excited and a bit overwhelmed. We don’t want to miss anything the great people of Iowa have in store for us but it seems there is going to be so many cool things to enjoy it will be impossible to do it all. I am going to make a cheat sheet of the highlights so it will…[Read more]
I have been thinking the same thing ever since I was invited to do Ragbrai last year but then someone said 4% grades and then a friend gave me a nice Dura-Ace standard crank set and the gears in my head started turning. I am going to stick with the triple especially after listening to the preride podcast.
I’m not rich I just like to tinker with old bikes and have some parts to choose from. The bike I will be riding is 30 years old and most of the parts are from the same era. Consumables like cables & tires I source new. My “Ragbrai bike” will be in the same price range as a new bike from Walmart. Don’t worry I plan to partake of lots of what the…[Read more]
I have gathered up about everything and will start on it this weekend. I built up a nearly identical one last fall. This frame is just 2 cm smaller and I like the fit better. I will ride it year around.
I am interested in this topic because I am building a bike for Ragbrai. I have a choice of a standard 39/53 crank set or a 30/38/52. I normally ride the triple setup on a route with a few short hills with 6% grade but rarely use little ring unless the wind is really blowing. Should I use the double or cover all the bases with the triple? I was…[Read more]
We have a small team going from N.Texas. Since we all are virgins we don’t know what advantage/disadvantage there is to adding anyone. Our meager resources are going to be stretched to the max so we couldn’t help anyone in that respect.
I can’t see how to start a new topic so I will ask here. Is our dog going to be a big problem or not allowed? He will be riding in our support vehicle and kept on a leash at all times in the campgrounds if we can bring him.
You sound like us! We will be “virgins” and know little of Iowa but still are anxious to find out where we will be going. The youngest of our team who is 10 wanted to go to the party and had trouble understanding why we couldn’t just go even though we live in Texas. Her second choice was to have a party here and watch the live stream so that’s our plan.
