I agree with TJ on all what he said. I would like if possible some day to be put on the fourm how much it cost to put on Ragbrai each year. And the average cost for the overnight towns and pass through towns. Because I live in the Area I know the local Ems services were stretched to their limits. And the local Fire Departments also.…[Read more]
I take the meaning On your left, as you are passing me on the left side. So naturally I am going to stay right where I am at. To me that does not mean to move over, it simply means do not move left because you are passing me on the left.
Accidents on Ragbrai are usually a combination of factors. Just like a vehicle and cyclists accident can…[Read more]
What are people’s thoughts on a ragbrai that would have an optional route each day so you could do a century ride each of the 7 days. I was thinking this for Ragbrai 50. The riders would have to sign in at the half way point with their wristband number. For each consecutive centry they would get a patch sent to them. If they make all 7…[Read more]
Craig I did not mean to insult you, I wish no one harm on Ragbrai, But being from the area, I have ridden on some pretty rough Roads. Semis tend to buzz by you at 65mph. You really don’t know what’s out there. I have have deer run beside me , and skunks come out of nowhere land. You add 20000 people to that mix plus a few angry drivers because…[Read more]
I guess I understand the pace line ,but I have to chuckle to myself when I see them crash. Most of iowa roads are not in good enough shape to do them. I wonder if very many people know about the other bike ride across iowa. They have bike iowa in a day.Just my opinion, but that would be a better venue for pace line. There are also the OK 200…[Read more]
Ragbrai 45 was Great. The bummer for me was dealing with a sinus infection. The icing on the cake was after getting my centry ride in was my Granddaughter came to my camp and we got a chance to visit. The most gorgeous morning was coming out of Spencer.
There is no shame in walking up those hills. Or when ever you need too. Those people that are in pace lines that yell out those things ,I laugh at. Because sooner or later they end up crashing because of big egos and not realizing that iowa roads are not in the best conditions to do that. I did walk up a little than got back on when I had…[Read more]
Last year was my first, and I was anxious to get on . You will find that you just have to look down the road aways and yell out rider on and get on. It is crowded first thing in the morning until you get out of town, but it is an awesome site and feeling when all you see is riders in fron and behind you as far as you can see. One thing I did…[Read more]
Mine is bright orange, I could care less about fashion, I most of the time riding the blacktops alone so I want to be seen. I also wear bright colors Jerseys and on cloudy days wear a reflective vest also have my head light and tail lights going. For Ragbrai the only difference is I won’t use my headlight much but my tail light is just…[Read more]
I have had one accident that was not on Ragbrai and my head hit the pavement, would have cracked my head open if I did not have one on. Will it save your life if you get hit by a car, most likely not, but it will save your life if you have an accident with another cyclist or you take the ditch to not get hit by a car.
As far as comfortable. Go to…[Read more]
I am with U.S.Cellular and last year was a southern route and we did not have a problem.,But they also had two portable towers that traveled within the route. If they do that again I would not think I would have problems
To W Fanning, just look me up my picture is pretty much how I look. I carry a Iowa map with me when I ride, as I do not like riding major highways. I am one of those type of riders that would rather go gravel or go 5 miles out of my way to not ride a major Highway. Ragbag goes through Britt, is only 11 miles from the town I live in. which is…[Read more]
I am coming on Friday and checking in to PBV then Saturday morning to Hawarden and back to Orange City, then to the activities that night. So I hope I will not be the only one doing this Saturday Morning. You are more then welcome to join me. I am not a fast rider. I am a fairly steady13 mph rider. I ride to relax and look around in the Groves .
I hope more experience riders can add to this list. This will make your ride more enjoyable and safe.
Most important one for me was to go to a local bike shop and get your bike properly fitted to your size. That goes with get your bike tuned up before the ride . Train. Know you are going to get passed and you are going pass people. Don’t follow…[Read more]
I carry a small stem bag which I have some normal size band aides and a external battery and usb cord for my phone, because I have my fitness app for my bike and lip balm and a package of gum. I carry a multi tool 2 tubes , tire levers and a garbage bag for rain, and attach my tail light to my seat bag. I carry my billfold and tissue and…[Read more]
I was planning on doing the whole ride. Just wondering if there was going to be a dip site at Lansing as that is where my family is going to pick me up so we can get some pictures taken. Also regards to Orange city , just because it is 20 or more miles from the state boarder just wanted to ride out and back to Orange City to make it truely accross…[Read more]
