RAGBRAI XLIX registration is now open!
Hello! TeamDefcon5 is officially at capacity. See you on the ride!
Hi Sally. We do offer daily rides. But, they aren’t rides in reverse of the route. Since we are supporting multiple riders, our team moves forward with the riders each day. I’m sorry that we won’t be able to help you out. I hope you do find someone that can. Happy riding!
Hi Hulagirl! Please reach out to me via email or text/call. I’d love to chat. We absolutely provide transportation to and from only. TeamDefcon5@gmail.com or 515-480-8298.
Hi Jason! We totally do that. Shoot me an email or text with your phone and I’ll reach out to you.
Hi! Team Defcon5 is home based in the Des Moines metro area. Several of our riders live in Central Iowa. Others are out of state riders. We’ve got a great group of people, but I’m sure that I am biased. We are a small team. Our bus allows for up to around 24 bikes on the rack. We offer week long services, daily rider services, as well as rides to the start and back from the end. We head out from just outside of Perry (where we store our bus). Shoot me an email at TeamDefcon5@gmail.com. Or a text at 515-480-8298. I’d be happy to tell you more and answer any questions.
I borrowed a trike in 2017, due to a broken wrist that happened in May of that year. It was definitely a different experience from an upright bicycle. The hills are where the difference is most notable. You are basically pulling yourself up the hills instead of pushing down on the pedals. As others said here, there really isn’t a bottleneck kind of problem. You will see a ton of other recumbents out there. As you talk to them along the way, many will invite you to meetups and group activities. There were a few hills that I ended up getting off and walking to the top. Keep in mind that my training miles had been deeply restricted due to my injury. One thing I never considered is how much hotter and sweatier I would get because of my closer proximity to the pavement.
I had a great time that year. But it doesn’t take much effort to have a great time every year. Enjoy your ride!
Hi Maria! If you are still looking for a team, Defcon5 has additional space for riders. Feel free to email me at TeamDefcon5@gmail.com or call me at 515-480-8298. We have riders from all several states. If you’ve found a team, that’s wonderful! We’re all just one big family anyway. :)
I broke my arm/wrist on May 30th of 2017. Yikes! My surgeon said no way. I said yes way and ended up riding a recumbent with a brace. Where there is a glimmer of hope and a seed of determination, you will find a way. :)
We still have room for riders who don’t mind tent camping, week long or daily riders. Email TeamDefcon5@gmail.com if you have questions or are interested. :)
Also, our support driver is retired Air Force, if that sways your decision. :)
Team Defcon5 also has room available. We are Des Moines based and can also get you to the start, from the end back to Des Moines. If you’ve not found a group to join, please email Wendy at TeamDefcon5@gmail.com. There is a weeklong rider fee, but includes full support.
Hi Amanda! Yes, we still have room. Email TeamDefcon5@gmail.com with your contact information. Let me know when is a good time to call. I look forward to talking with you.
Hi Carol! We do have available space. Email us at TeamDefcon5@gmail.com with your contact information. I’ll give you a call when it is convenient for you. I’d love to talk more and answer any questions that you have. Thanks!
Hi Rick! How exciting that you are a first time Ragbrai rider! You are going to have a great time meeting people from all walks of life and from across the globe.
Email us at the team email. We can talk more via email or by phone. I am happy to answer any questions.
We may be interested. We’re from Des Moines. Our ridership waxes and wanes, but our team has never been more than 5 riders. My husband and I have only ridden a few days at a time. This will be our 3rd ride. Please let us know about fees and I will bring it up to him. Thanks!
