MercyOne and RAGBRAI's Health Tip #1: Water, Water, Water

It is hot this time of year. We’re working and playing outside, so we need to be mindful of our hydration when we’re out on these long hot summer days. Here are a couple things to think about when you’re trying to stay hydrated.
Water, water, water!
Your number one choice to get hydrated. Some of those beverages with caffeine or alcohol in them are dehydrating. “Be focused on water,” says registered dietitian Jennifer Arndt. “You can use sports drinks occasionally but be careful to watch how much sugar is in them.”
Listen to your body
Be mindful and listen to what your body needs. Are you feeling thirsty? Have some water. Is your urine darker than usual? Drink some water.
Take a break from the sun, drink some water and think about some of your food. Watermelon, cucumber, celery and strawberries. Focus on water, add some fruits and veggies and don’t drink too much caffeine. Enjoy your summer!
