For this summer you want to make sure you’re protecting your skin from the sun. When you are buying your sunscreen you want to look for an SPF of 30 or better. You want to apply your sunscreen before you head out so it has a chance to soak into your skin.
“You need about an ounce to cover your whole body as an adult. So think about the amount you would put in a shot glass,” says MercyOne wellness specialist Erica Bonstead, ATC-L. “Make sure you hit those spots that are getting a lot of sun exposure like your ears, the tip of your nose, your forehead, and hairline. You’re going to want to apply it very thoroughly and make sure you are rubbing it in. Once you are outside, make sure you are reapplying every two to three hours.”
You can also use other gear to protect yourself from the sun: a hat, sunglasses, lightweight or lightly colored clothing that has SPF protection. All of these things will help to reduce the signs of aging and protect you from sunburn.
