Mississippi flooding prompts minor changes in Davenport

Minor flooding in Davenport should have only minor effects on RAGBRAI, organizers said Friday.
Record rainfall in Dubuque prompted concerns about Mississippi River flooding downstream in Davenport.
Joe Taylor, president of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau and chairman of the Davenport RAGBRAI committee, said they’ve made some minor changes to accommodate the rise in water, but said most of the day would go on as planned.
“I don’t think a RAGBRAI rider will notice much change at all,” he said.
Some changes will include:
• Cyclists will not ride on the Riverfront Trail. Instead, they will ride the last mile on US Highway 61 and River Drive and turn onto Marquette Street, which will lead them to the dip site. The dip site hasn’t changed.
• Credit Island is closed, so anyone planning to camp there will be relocated to Centennial Park.
• There will be no change to the route or parking areas for support crews, or to any planned entertainment.
Taylor said he was excited to have RAGBRAI in Daveport after a 29-year absence.
“We’re anxious to roll out the red carpet and welcome everyone,” he said.
