PEDALART POSTER SHOW
BRINGS BIKE AND ART ENTHUSIASTS TOGETHER

Bike to Work Month has almost rolled to a close, but that doesn’t mean the festivities are over!  If you are in Des Moines next weekend, be sure to swing by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective for their PedalArt Poster Show – opening Friday, May 31 at the Des Moines Social Club (400 Walnut Street) from 7 to 10 pm, with additional hours including Saturday, June 1 from 10 am to 3 pm and Sunday, June 2 from Noon to 3 pm.

“PedalArt attracts art lovers and cycle enthusiasts,” explained Carl Voss, board member for The Des Moines Bicycle Collective, the non-profit group that sponsors Central Iowa Bike Month, which culminates with the PedalArt show this year. “It is a great venue to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork at an affordable price.”

There are 30 artists selected for PedalArt. Each will create original bike-inspired artwork to showcase and sell during the weekend show. Posters sell for $30 each, with 70 percent of the proceeds going back to the artist.

Michelle Holley, the gallery curator for Des Moines Social Club and the PedalArt  poster show, is looking forward to another successful opening night. “The artists have really set the bar high this year with some incredible work!”

PedalArt is one of over 30 events sponsored by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective during the month of May. The goal is to promote the importance of bicycling in sustainable living and reinforce the benefits to health, wellness and basic happiness that come with riding a bike.

    Ordering online:
I can’t speak for the show organizers or other artists, but I’m sure something could be worked out, after the DMSC weekend show is over.
Usually there’s a page somewhere with links to all the artist’s website that would be helpful.
If I see it, I’ll post it here.

We usually have some PedalArt poster artists’ work after the show and their stint at Raygun Shirts in Des Moines. We have a few from PedalArt 2012 and various Artcrank and Screen and Spokes poster shows. Feel free to write in the next couple weeks to see what we end up with after the PedalArt 2013 show – a number of real standout posters this year!
