Day 5 Thursday features a tip of the cap to one of RAGBRAI’s founders. Karras Loop Day offers an extra 27.3-mile loop, named in honor of John Karras, who founded the ride with fellow Des Moines Register writer Donald Kaul.

At 83.7 miles, Day 5 is already the longest day of the ride this year. And those who choose to ride the optional Karras Loop will cover about 110 miles. (If you’re wondering, Saturday is the shortest day of the ride this year, with just 31.6 miles between DeWitt and Clinton.)
