RAGBRAI Route Inspection Pre-Ride Day 7 – DeWitt to Clinton
- 13 June, 2021

Look we were in DeWitt overnight and we’re still not sure if we can “handle” it! What a fun community to visit. A small group of about a dozen riders gathered this morning to ride for the final day of the 2021 Route Inspection from DeWitt to Clinton.
We would like to take a second to say thank you to our amazing 2021 Pre Ride Crew! Joanie (Green) Mousel, Tag Mousel, Ryan Hanson, and Liam Drake! We would LITERALLY be lost without you. And sometimes we’re lost with you too :)
Also a huge thanks to Brian Powers, Des Moines Register photographer for capturing our journey across the state, even though he loves to take photos of us struggling up hills.
And finally, thank you to the many communities who welcomed us this week. We couldn’t appreciate you more and cannot wait to be back in a few short weeks.
Today’s ride was 31.6 miles with approximately 1,148 feet of climb. On our way from DeWitt to Clinton, we visited Charlotte, Goose Lake, and Six Mile. Click this text for a map of the seventh day of RAGBRAI XLVIII.
Photos from our trip are below – but be sure to scroll down for details on the day’s ride and our overnight town, Clinton!
Wow, what a ride! If our trip across Iowa this week is any indication, you all are going to have a blast on RAGBRAI this July. The towns are just as welcoming and excited to see us as ever, maybe more so since we’ve been planning for so long. Similar to the ride from Anamosa to De Witt, most of the elevation change for Saturday is in the first half of the day. Ride the hills into Charlotte and take a big breakfast break, then power through the rest of the hills into Goose Lake. Goose Lake is planning a pool party that you won’t want to miss!! Heading from there to Six Mile, you’ll see things level out. This is a little different for veteran RAGBRAI riders as many of us are used to sharp hills as we near the Mississippi. Instead, you’re in for a treat as we roll in to town. Clinton has a top notch dip site for us, complete with a scenic Marina and a roll down along the river as you head to long term parking and the charters’ camps.

Does it seem like Clinton gets prettier every time we visit? Well it does, in part due to a Vision Iowa grant which upped the beauty of the Riverview Park in Clinton, one of the first cities honored by the Department of Cultural Affair’s “Iowa Great Places” program.
The community hopes you stay in Clinton long enough to enjoy some of the city’s many attractions including the Bickelhaupt Arboretum, the Clinton Sawmill Museum, the Clinton Historical Society Museum, Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, the Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center, Eagle Point Park and the Wild Rose Casino & Resort.
We recorded a preview of our journey from Le Mars to Sac City on the JustGoBike Podcast! Listen here:
