RAGBRAI nation,

Mark your calendars! Registration opens on Monday, December 7th, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. for RAGBRAI XLVIII.

Planning is underway with our partners and towns. While we are optimistic about a safe and healthy ride in 2021, we know some things will have to change to ensure the safety and health of all. To that end, we are planning for several contingencies due to COVID-19 and will release a detailed FAQ with registration.

And since we have you here, we want to share an update on several items we’ve been working on.

A new overnight town. Unfortunately, Maquoketa had to withdraw as the Friday overnight town due to construction projects that can’t be avoided. We are working on a new overnight town and will announce them as soon as possible. The full route with pass-thru towns will be announced virtually in late January in lieu of an in-person Route Announcement Party. More details will be released on how to Livestream that announcement in the near future.

Fresh look. If you’ve registered for RAGBRAI before or spent time on our website or app you will notice some changes over the next couple of months.

The first is our registration system. We’re moving to a new platform. Housing the system on our site took a toll on the overall functionality of and your experience. We took our time building out the new registration system which is why registration is opening on Dec. 7 this year instead of mid-November. We think it is worth the wait and will share detailed FAQs on how to use the new system when we launch on December 7.

Moving the registration platform off our website gives us the ability to refresh the look and functionality of and the RAGBRAI app. The refreshed website and app will be mobile-friendly, have increased mapping technology, better page layouts to communicate information, and an updated look.

We are excited to share all updates with you in the near future and hope they enhance your experience and provide easy access to the information and tools you need to make the most of the ride.

We are looking forward to being on the road again with you in 2021!

your friends at RAGBRAI

I transferred my 2020 registration to 2021. Do I need to do anything to ensure it is in the new registration system? You will not have to do anything. We will pre-load your registration into the new system. The week of Nov. 30 you will receive a detailed email from RAGBRAI with information on how to access your 2021 registration, account details, and basic instructions for the new system.

Will the ride be safe? Yes. We are planning for every possible scenario of COVID-19 and will release details around our contingencies when registration opens on Dec. 7 and we will continue to update you and the FAQs as plans are confirmed.

What if you have to cancel 2021 due to COVID-19? We can’t wait for next year’s ride but we are still planning for contingencies related to COVID-19 and have your best interests in mind. While we are optimistic that we’ll be able to host a safe in-person ride, if the event is canceled you’ll be notified and be able to choose between a full refund, a deferral to the 2022 event, or an entry into RAGBRAI Virtually the Best Bicycle Ride. If you choose the virtual ride, you’ll get your swag shipped directly to your door.

I’ve ridden many RAGBRAI’s in the past. However I’ve been absent for the past several years.
I totally loved RAGBRAI, And couldn’t wait for the start every July. For many years.
So this will be a homecoming return for me.
I’m really looking forward again and absolutely can’t wait for the start in July next summer.

  2. Keith Wietharn

Thank you, I look forward to my first RAGBRAI ride with three of my brothers. Are our chances good to get it if we register on December 7th?
    Thank you very much

  3. Len Radin

The theme of, “On the Road Again” is obviously a perfect choice! I look forward to my first RAGBRAI.

Once I entered the vehicle and paid for my registration for 2020, the team was locked. Is it safe to assume that the teams will be unlocked so members can join and pay for the 2021 ride? Two of our riders as well as our driver chose to leave the payment in your system; we cannot add more riders until the team is unlocked. In the past, once the team leader paid, the team was locked. I am the team leader. I paid and kept my registration and payment with you. How will the new registration system address this issue?

    Hi Ken,

    Hi Ken,

Transfers will be automatically moved to 2021 registration. An email with how to access that will come tomorrow to all transfers. You will need to set-up your team in the new registration platform. Team members who didn’t register or didn’t pay in 2020 will need to re-register or register this year. As mentioned, we plan to send out a detailed email to transfer riders tomorrow and will host webinars over the next two weeks to help ease everyone into the new registration platform and into 2021.

  6. Rita Nathanson

I set up our group./team. Can each of our group/team members register as part of our group/team? Will there be information on how to do that?

I am having trouble with migrating to the new page. I am asked for sign in information, when entered, it says that information is already used. It won’t let me sign in with my existing sign in. While tecnically challenged, it may be something I am doing wrong.
Also, my daughter, Kelly Brooks should be on the transfer list, but she receives no email from RAGBRAI, could you check. We are both signed in with Seersucker Riders.

  8. Anne Lawrie

@jjlundbeck I am sending you an email with further instructions. Both you and Kelly have been transferred. You will need to use the email addresses that we have on file from your 2020 registration. All details will be included in the email that I send to you. Please disregard if you’ve been in contact with someone already.

@Rita all that information is on our registration page at Have them click on REGISTERING FOR RAGBRAI link. They are considered new riders and will need to follow those prompts to register for 2021.

Thanks and please let us know if we can help in any other way by emailing us at
