VAN METER — One blocK from the RAGBRAI route, two great American pastimes collided: biking and baseball.
Between beers and pie, they stopped into the Bob Feller Museum to learn about a hometown Hall of Fame baseball player and war hero.
“Obviously, with his being a local guy we wanted to check it out,” Korey Jeschke said. “It’s not just baseball stuff but a lot about the war and other things, too. That’s great.”
Museum Manager Scott Harwick praised the RAGBRAI stop as a chance for riders to learn about an Iowa legend.
“It’s nice RAGBRAI goes through these little towns,” Harwick said. “It’s nice for (riders) to get a little history as they trek across it.”
For Dave Duncan, of Boone, the reason to stop was simple.
“The history is phenomenal,” Duncan said. “This is what baseball is all about.”
