The newly paved Sauk Rail Trail will celebrate its grand opening this summer with an inaugural “Ride the Rail” bicycle ride on June 11. The ride will start in Carroll at Swan Lake State Park and end in Lake View at Black Hawk State Park. Riders may opt to ride back to Carroll for a total of 66 miles that day. Stops along the route include Maple River, Breda and Carnarvon. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony held in each community and a complimentary lunch will be served to riders in Breda. The ride will begin at Swan Lake with the Carroll ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 am.
The Sauk Rail Trail is a 33-mile multi-use recreational trail managed by both the Sac and Carroll County Conservation Boards. It is the only recreational trail in the state of Iowa to connect two state parks, both of which contain lakes that offer an abundance of recreational activities. Campgrounds and lodging are available in both Carroll and Lake View, along with a variety of shopping and dining options.
