Signs for Ron Paul -- and against 'Obamanure'

There have been surprisingly few political campaign signs along the RAGBRAI route, considering the Republican presidential straw poll hits Ames next month.

There are, however, a few exceptions, including a few dozen signs for Ron Paul, a handful of Michele Bachmann jerseys and at least one big homemade sign for President Obama in 2012. Congressman Bruce Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, has a number of signs even though the bikers’ route won’t pass through his eastern Iowa district until the last day of the ride.

The same group that posted big black signs calling for the ouster last year of three Iowa Supreme Court justices who ruled in favor of same-sex marriage have painted the same signs again – this time urging Iowans to vote against justice David Wiggins, who was also involved in the same ruling and whose term expires next year.

In Luther this morning, RAGBRAI riders saw a beautifully tended lawn and garden with a sign that said the homeowners had done their landscaping without government assistance.  But be warned: The next 1,058 miles are covered with “Obamanure.”

    omg, i hope all this tea bagger junk doesn’t detract from the fun my girl is having. i guess it’s good for her to see there are two sides to IOWA after all, the good side and the side mentioned on the previous comment. peace, love, and rock and roll on those bikes.

    It is worth noting that the democrats’ approach to spending is all too similar to the late Amy Winehouse’s approach to drugs.

    Would all of the tea partiers please get lost in a corn maze?

    The majority of our debt comes from 1) An unneeded war in Iraq; 2) An unfunded prescription drug bill; 3) Tax cuts that were supposed to be temporary.

    Oh, how many guesses do you need to pinpoint who was responsible for those expenses. Not Obama.

    The fact of the matter is that the stimulus under Obama was actually supposed to serve a purpose — stimulate the economy. The Bush era policies did not help the economy, especially the tax cuts. Anybody who thinks differently is not an economist.

    Our economy was much stronger in the late 80s, and the 1990s, when tax rates were higher than in the 2000s.
