Sioux City – Downtown Sioux City came alive Saturday night as a crowd of nearly 20,000 rocked to the late-’90s hits of Smash Mouth.
Young and old danced in front of an outdoor stage as the rock band from San Jose, Calif. blasted hits like “Walkin’ On the Sun” and “All Star” as part of the 38th Annual RAGBRAI kick-off party.
Matthew Grion, 28, and his wife Kathy Grion, 28, arrived early to get a spot near the front of the stage.
“I know these guys are a big name, so when I heard they were playing, it was a pretty big deal to me,” Matthew Grion said.

The band kicked off the concert with the popular hit “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby,” followed closely by “Then the Morning Comes,” encouraging the crowd to sing the memorable lyrics with them.
Two pint-sized guests took the stage during the hour-long concert to make sure the high-energy audience stayed strong throughout the set.
“Come on people. Let’s get this party started!” said one child pulled on stage from the crowd to show off his own skills on the guitar with a little help from lead vocalist Steve Harwell.
The enthusiastic crowd was rewarded with a concert that lasted shortly after 11 p.m. Smash Mouth sent their fans off with the 1999 hit “All Star.”
An explosion of fireworks followed the last strains of the song, marking the end of the night for some. For others, it meant the party was just getting started.
