The Clear Lake RAGBRAI Entertainment Committee announced today their star-studded entertainment lineup for RAGBRAI’s stop in Clear Lake on Tuesday, July 27th.
Entertainment featured on two stages in downtown Clear Lake, plus a Friends and Family Beach Party at City Beach with hula hoops, limbo and other beach games, plus live music to keep the crowds rockin’ from noon until midnight!
“Clear Lake is best known for our beaches and quality entertainment at the Surf Ballroom, so the theme ‘Surf’s Up’ was a natural fit and is consistent throughout the event – including our entertainment choices,” said Shane Cooney, Clear Lake’s Entertainment Chair. “Having the Spin Doctors as part of the lineup made a well-rounded schedule with a fun mix of music throughout the day.”
The evening concert will feature national recording artists The Spin Doctors on the MBT/Hanson Foundation’s Main Stage, located in the City Park’s Bandshell beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Spin Doctors are an alternative rock band formed in New York City in the late 1980’s and are best known for their early 1990’s hits, including “Two Princes,” “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong,” and “Jimmy Olson’s Blues” which peaked on the Billboard Top 100 charts at #7, #17 and #28 respectively. In August 1991, the Spin Doctors released their full-length debut album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite.
Relentless touring and a wave of positive press kept the album alive into the next year, when sales began to increase dramatically. Kryptonite was certified gold in September 1992 and received an additional boost from the band’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” Reaching the one million mark in January 1993, Kryptonite entered the Billboard Top Ten one month later and peaked at #3, ultimately selling 10 million copies world wide. The Spin Doctors were nominated for best rock vocal performance by a duo or group for their classic “Two Princes” in 1994.
Before the Spin Doctors hit the stage, Jimmy Buffett fans and island music lovers will enjoy the sounds of The Parrots of the Caribbean.
Together, this group of five musicians makes up the Number 1 Jimmy Buffet tribute act in the nation. It’s a show that the “Parrotheads” in the crowd won’t soon forget!
In addition to the musical acts downtown, there will be a grand fireworks display at 10:00 p.m., followed by the groovy late night tunes of Christy Love & You Know Who playing all of your favorite 70’s disco and funk hits from the 80’s.
A performance by Bob & The Beachcombers will guarantee that the Surf’s Up on the shores of beautiful Clear Lake with their performance from noon until 5:00 p.m. on City Beach. Bob & The Beachcombers were formed in late 1986 in Minnesota…the “Land of 10,000 Beaches.”
During the following summer, they were the featured weekday attraction at Valleyfair and over the years, an ever-expanding list of celebrations, events, casinos and public shows has earned them the reputation of being the best surf music dance band in the Midwest.
The VFW stage will feature a number of regional favorites including Stan The Pan Man, The Jumbies, Dueling Guitars and Hitchville from noon until 5:00 p.m.
Stan The Pan Man (Stan Dahl of Des Moines) will bring a taste of the south seas to the beaches of Clear Lake with the sounds of steel drums and other Caribbean instruments.
The Jumbies will take the rhythm, energy and motion of traditional Caribbean musical styles like Soca and Reggae, the vibrant sound of the steel pan, and a high-energy funk backing band and spin out a tasty cocktail of seriously danceable music. What further blows the mind is that this sound comes out of five guys from Iowa. All who see them are sure to be possessed by the spirit of Jumbies!
A Dueling Guitars show featuring Iowa guitarists Brian Congdon and Brad Seidenfeld is designed to be a fun, request based good time!
Hitchville hails from the Minneapolis area and is a unique fusion of two of Minneapolis’ accomplished rock and country vocalists. Mixing pure country with a raw style of rock, Heidi & Matt bring back the essence of a genre that originated in the U.S.: on the corner of country and rock, they are Hitchville.
Typhoon Tommy’s Jet Ski Show will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This jet ski show features World Class Freestyle moves and consists of top stunt show performers, professional Jet Ski freestyle competitors, water skiers and Sky Ski Hydrofoil. You won’t want to miss this action packed show on the waves of Clear Lake!
